Broadcasting desperate pleas for attention from a shower stall -- while that's definitely odd (and pathetic!) it's not insane :)

@edosan: That would probably cost a lot more than just paying it off :D

@Buran: As a northerner who recently moved to the South, let me assure you, not everybody down here thinks so...

Verizon Doesn't Care That Someone Hijacked Your Account While You Were Serving Overseas

This is at least the second Consumerist story about members of US armed forces trying to put accounts on hold, and Verizon screwing that up in some way. Getting accused of fraud is worse than just losing your old number, though.

Philadelphia Cafe Keeping Server's Tips For Themselves?

Whether or not the servers were in on the deal when they were hired, who knows. But I really doubt this was ever explained to the average customer -- who paid a 15%-20% surcharge on the listed menu price to fund this place's renovations and Team Building Experience.

BAD restaurant.

Presumably they're doing this by not turning over funds in the "tip" line of the credit card to the server, so this is an argument to tip in cash to prevent unethical businesses from skimming -- this is the first I heard of a restaurant that kept ALL the tips, but I've heard of places that kept a portion.

Wow, very nice, Spreadshirt.

@dh86sj: I'm not sure how "gay" and "Fortune 500 excutive or elected representative" are mutually exclusive, or how you defended the hetero-nature of fraternity brothers (some of whom are gay).

@MyPetFly: The Pony Express was never affiliated with the US Postal Service. It was a separate company that was contracted to carry US mail on its ponies.

Either way, I wouldn't trust Pony Express to ship my computer overseas :)

NYT Editorial Board: Hey Congress, Textbooks Are Too Expensive!

I got my textbooks for relatively low price by checking them out of the school library (which always had its own copy, frequently copies, of textbooks for the upcoming semester); anything I wanted/needed, I photocopied. That was because I was one of those poor students with little disposable income and needed to be creative about resources :P

Buy a combo printer/copier (about the same price as one textbook, nowadays) and you don't even have to pay to get the copies.

And it's all legal under fair use.

Drunk Dell Tech Repairs Laptop With Hammer

Have pity on poor Joel. When you're drunk, it's hard to distinguish between a hammer and a wee little screwdriver.

Seriously, though, his behavior was wrong on so many levels, and Dell's lack of motivation to make up for it (like, I dunno, firing a drunk tech who uses a hammer?) is disturbing.

Skyy is just pandering to anti-immigration activists. There were a lot of effects beyond "changing mailing addresses" for the residents of those now-states, and anyone with half a clue about history is aware of that.

Guess they don't want to sell Skyy in Mexico. Or to me, since I have half a clue about history.
