Study: Radiation From TSA's Full-Body Scanners Poses "No Significant Threat"

This is exactly my concern. TSA won't even make public the maintenance schedule for these machines. Sure they are a minimal risk when working properly and properly calibrated, but who knows whether that's the case. If even hospitals are having trouble with their machines, I'm not going to trust a glorified mall cop to properly dose me.

"My father emigrated from Greece about 45 years ago". I hate to come across as sounding xenophobic, but Greece has a culture of tax evasion and ignoring licensing/fees. We at least pretend to subscribe to the rule of law (the same rule of law that prevents your unlawful detention by the receipt goons).

The Story Behind Trader Joe's 'Two-Buck Chuck' Wine

Of course, much of the difference you claim to taste is actually derived from receiving the higher price signal. See http://www.pnas.org/content/105/3/1050.abstract for a serious neurocognitive study on this. (This is not to say that some truly awful wines are not truly awful -- just that most of the variation in the middle may be illusory.)

A Pilot's Perspective On Woman Removed From Plane For Asking If Captain Had Been Drinking

Summary: pilots are petty tyrants who think it's more important to protect their own reputation than take seriously concerns that could put hundreds of lives at risk. I really don't care about your stigma among your co-workers -- it's not that hard to prove that the passenger was incorrect.

I particularly liked the paragraph about spreading panic among the other passengers. Talk about ex-post rationalizations. You want to deal with passengers? Treat us like adults. A simple, "no, I haven't been drinking" would suffice.

Worst Company Final Deathmatch: Ticketmaster VS Comcast

Comcast may be awful in almost every regard, but at least when someone asks "What service does Comcast provide?" you have an answer ("they install and mantain a cable network that they overcharge for and throttle bandwidth on"). What service does Ticketmaster provide, other than monopoly control of live music?
