Dell Will Overnight Your Replacement Laptop Within 18 Business Days
@mythago:
And where exactly did I ever say $2000 wasn't a lot of money? I'm just putting things into perspective.
Personally, I built my own desktop. Monitor and all accessories, $1500. Price it on Alienware or another gaming computer company, ~3000.
@everyone complaining about the "unrealistic" 18 day window
Any one of you work in manufacturing? Then, anyone work in customized products? Then, anyone ever had to handle returns of custom products?
If not, then stop saying it's unreasonable because you have nothing to base it on, besides "That's what I think." I work for a manufacturing company, and just because something went wrong, doesn't mean all work stops just to please one customer. Things take time to sort out, search, and try to find a replacement.
I'm not saying Dell is right either, but they only gave 18 days as an estimate. And since people don't understand the meaning of estimate, they have had to pad that number. And second, it's business days BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE PEOPLE WORKING ON THE FREAKING WEEKEND.

Outlet has 1, read ONE, computer of that exact model, unless there's some freak anomaly where two, or more, people order the same exact specs and return it. In this case, they probably sold the same computer twice.
They will have similar models, but not exact. They are trying to see if they get a return with the exact specs to fulfill the order. If they can't, they'll either refund or upgrade.
And I stand by my earlier comment, if the OP "needed" a laptop in such a hurry, go into a B&M store. As an engineer and gamer, a computer around $2000 with full warranty and accessories is not a lot of money. Certainly above average, but not like the "big spender" he thinks he is.
@UGAdawg:
You're correct, there's some fluff time built into that estimate. Because things do happen, and simple mistakes like selling the same freaking computer twice occur. When my company gives an ETA, we purposely add a few days to cover our ass and look good when we get deliver goods "early". Standard practice.

Is consumerist that desperate for a story to post?
This is a simple mistake, and yes, mistakes do happen dammit. No company is perfect, they can only strive for perfection. They are trying to rectify the problem and this guy is demanding even more.
If you "needed" something quick, that's what brick-and-mortar stores are for.
Maybe Dell can take a page out of T-Mobile's book and give the OP some porn to keep him occupied for the next few weeks.
Reader Receives $900 For Broken Laptop In Small Claims Court
@morlo:
I'm saying you should know something about the company and the parts it uses if you're going to put a life expectancy on it.
Second, I don't think any HP computers will last 2 years before a problem occurs. You get what you pay for, not what you think you paid for.
Also, if the OP wanted something that lasts 4 years, buy something the company will sell a 4 year warranty for. Simple as that.
Lastly, there is no such thing as overspending if you can justify the costs. I'm a gamer and $2000 for a laptop is not overspending, if I will be using it as my main computer. If you think you overspent on a computer, then you need to reevaluate what you NEED it to do.

First, I thinks it's amusing how people who don't know jack about computer hardware putting an expected life time on a computer.
Second, it's amusing that the OP thinks spending $1150 is overspending.
Third, they expect quality from HP.
Fourth, the OP "knows" it's the same exact problem, when they don't even know what the problem is. Knowing the symptoms is usually less than half the battle. Hell, look at the BSOD, Microsoft themselves say they don't know WTF causes it most of the time. It took millions of customers aggregating their experiences to piece together the current knowledge database.
Lastly, even with all this OP bashing, I'm still on their side. They actually did their research, reached out and tried to work with the company. When you're making a large purchase, look at the fine print with the warranty. Warranties are created so that most of them will not break within the warranty period. Also, if the warranty has funny language or excessive exceptions, you might want to think twice about the quality.

Ever wish you could move info around on a note card to better organize it? Ever lose 1 note card, and it's always the one that can't be replaced?
Yeah, tablet PCs have their drawbacks with regard to the shear speed of note taking, but you shouldn't be writing every word coming out of a professors mouth either. You learn ways to shorten things and to connect ideas. To me, the tablet was invaluable, and being able to organize notes without rewriting them meant that I reorganized them numerous times to attempt to make it coherent, and in a way, figured out many things during that process.
EECB Results In Deluge Of Comcast Callbacks, Quick Fix
@pb5000:
I agree with pb500. If you have never worked at a help desk center, then you have no idea what goes on.
At least 50% of my IT desk was for non-IT related questions.
"What's the website for XXX?"
"What time does XXX close?"
I imagine Comcast would get "What does does XXX show come on?
Another 25% are stupid questions.
"I can't see anything on my screen, it's pitch black." TURN THE DAMN THING ON.
"My internet doesn't work."
Plug in the cable.
"What cable?" + "Don't I automatically have wireless like my cell phone?" (I FREAKING HATED THIS MORON)
And if you don't get my rant, they waste our time and prevent us from getting real work done. Granted, I was intelligent enough to know when real problems occurred and what needed to be escalated immediately.

Yes, this is to blame the OP. BoA is A POS, we all know it, the OP knows it, which is why BoA was contacted this time.
Yet, the OP thinks BoA will actually do what they're suppose to, and not have a back up? For the second time?
