Worst Company In America: "Final Four" Comcast VS Diebold

I am really interested to know the age breakdown of who is voting for Comcast vs. Diebold. This is just a guess, but I would bet that Comcast voters skew younger, and Diebold voters skew older.

Any way we can track this, editors?

Worst Company In America "Final Four" Bracket!

I have been a big proponent of Countrywide winning this thing from the beginning, and nominated them in the original post.

I gotta stick with them all the way through the finals.

It will be:

Countrywide
Diebold
Walmart
Comcast

I can't believe that Comcast took it away from my pick, Exxon.

And, let's be honest: none of this kvetching is going to make any of these companies change their own business models. Therefore, I can't advocate going with the "practical" choice, hoping that it will foment change.

I am casting my vote for Countrywide on principle.

Hey Editors,

Shouldn't this be tagged with a "Good Company" tag?

Let's give credit where credit is due. This was a good call on the company's part.

I appreciate a little snark, but fair is fair.

Worst Company In America "Sweet 16": Best Buy VS Diebold

Listen, people, Best Buy might be bad, but it is not killing our country. Many people have NO choice whether they vote on a touch screen created by Diebold or not, and there have been numerous exposes about flaws in both their hardware and software.

It's Now Completely Impossible To Sell A Laptop On Ebay

I am surprised that no one has recommended what I do: outsource my eBay listings.

Sure, for general-use electronics, craigslist is fine, but for more specialized stuff, you are not likely to find a local buyer.

I have gotten to know my local eBay store guy (I had to shop around to about a dozen places before I found someone that I connect with), and he takes a 33% commission on top of what eBay and Paypal charge.

BUT, I walk away with 60%, and NO HEADACHES. No flakes, no stupid emails from idiots, no people promising to come over, then never showing, and no problems at all.

I have better things to do with my time.

Cablevision Blatantly Lies To Subscribers As The FCC Twiddles Its Thumbs

If the goal is to free up bandwidth by eliminating analog channels, then wouldn't we expect to see a decrease in the cable bill?

If cable companies offered more service for less money, I bet they would see a huge increase in the uptake of digital cable.

If this were perceived as a net benefit to the customer (plus the chance to upsell them with 100s more channels in the future, faster internet, etc), people would jump on it.

Why charge extra for something that is making the company's work easier and more profitable?

It would be like banks charging to use the ATM....oh wait...

Off topic, but relevant:

The advertising banner I have at the end of this post is for the lobbying arm of the cable industry; the tag line is "Cable Competes; Consumers Win."

Does anyone else find this ironic? The cable cos need to take their ad agency to task for propping up Consumerist with their ad dollars.

And, Consumerist better be careful to never say anything nice about cable cos now, lest you all be charged with playing favorites with your advertisers.
