A Look Inside Microsoft's First Retail Store
@Joeb5: Ugh, for future reference:

Home Depot Drives Away Another Customer Forever
I'm going to go for the obvious- why not do a little internet digging on the product before buying it? They waited a couple months to decide to buy the floor, but couldn't Google it to find out what other customers had to say about it? It's a big purchase that you live with every day...might want to get a better opinion than from some leotard in an orange apron who knows only what the manufacturer and managers tell them.
On the other hand, epically bad customer service.
What Are The Most Expensive Colleges In America?
@BabyFirefly: No joke. My 4-year degree at one of the most prestigious universities in the world cost about the same as one year at a comparable school in the USA.
Help Us Choose The Top 10 Shopping Gotchas!
Good god, I hate it when the cashier has a million things to rattle off before they're allowed to sell me something. On a recent visit to Chapters (which unfortunately is the only bookstore for tens of kilometers), the questions I was asked:
Do you have a rewards card? (No.)
Would you like to purchase one? (No.)
Do you know about the rewards program? (Yes.)
You could save $2 on this purchase, are you sure you don't want to buy one? (Yes.)
Would you like to donate $1 to X Local School's Library Fund (Not Today.)
Would you like to buy a bow for $1 to benefit Breast Cancer Research? (Nope.)
Can we have your email address to let you know about events at this store? (Nope.)
All that to let me buy a book. And even after all that she managed to point out and circle the part on the receipt where I could do an online survey (which I did, outlining how ridiculous this process is).
Quilted Northern Justifies Shrinking Its TP
@t0ph: Crapping Christ, I was suggesting buying recycled-paper TP rather than waste money on this shite, but you luddites apparently can't read into anything.
What I am saying:
People using less non-recycled material on their buttholes = MORE GOOD.
It's ever-so-slightly possible of being an unintentional side-effect from making smaller rolls.
Quilted Northern Justifies Shrinking Its TP
Actually, I kinda appreciate the shrink-ray hitting TP. Maybe (but probably not) it will start getting people to stop using half a roll every time they poop. The amount of non-recycled material we flush every year is really embarrassing, all in the name of wiping our asses with something soft.
Zipcar Ceases To Zip For Temporarily Stranded Customer
Seems like the OP has some other issues other than the Zipcar. Zipcars are meant for short, 1-2hour in-the-city trips. Their entire infrastructure is built around that premise, and their pricing reflects it. It is much, much more economical to rent a car for any day-long or overnight trip. Just comes down to stupid consumerism on her part.
Very stupidly handled for Zipcar however. I use 'em in a newer city (Vancouver) and the service and cars are generally excellent.
Is It Time For Travel Agents To Make A Comeback?
The travel agent my company uses has saved my bacon numerous times.
One in particular: record snowfall shut down Vancouver airport last December when I was trying to get to Toronto. My flight (on a 777 with 350 confirmed passengers) was cancelled. I could've spent the entire day waiting in lines trying to get on a flight as standby (they literally told all of my flight's passengers to go to a single other gate and try to get on that flight....chaos!), but I just rang up the company agent who got me a confirmed seat on a flight 2 hours later. Had a relaxed lunch, and got on the flight.
Booking online is great if you don't run into any problems on your way. As soon as 350 people are trying to get 2-4 gate agents to bend to their will, all bets are off.
Airlines Considers $10 Fee For Sitting Away From Babies
Bogus. [www.cbc.ca]
Knew it was from the moment I saw it. It's totally against WestJet's MO to do something like charge/credit for minute details of flights. You buy a Westjet ticket, and everything's included. Period. And that's what I love about them.

Northwest Air Pilot Misses Airport By 150 Miles
@Eyebrows McGee (now with more baby!): Ground controllers actually are limited in the frequencies they can use to contact aircraft -nearby ground stations have different frequencies, so pilots are directed to which frequency they should change when they exit the airspace of a control.
Aircraft can tune to any frequency, so the ground controller can give another pilot a list of the recent stations that plane should have been talking to in hopes that they just hadn't been handed-off correctly and are still tuned to an earlier station. That was the case here.
