Insurance Company Mails Out Postcards With SSNs
And most people give their SS# when they fill out that form at the doctor's office. You don't need to hand over your SS# and I don't, the only number they need is my insurance company member number.
Just leave it blank and when they ask for it ask why they need it and be prepared to point out that they don't need it.
Fewer Consumers Write Personal Checks, Fewer Retailers Accept Them
While I use bill pay for most recurring bills and debit card for day to day spending we still write quite a number of checks - doctor office co-pays, charity donations, real estate taxes, local utility bill, service providers (i.e. plumber, electrician, dog sitter, etc.).
Depressed Lady Loses Benefits Because Of Her Facebook Photos
And even if its private doesn't mean its not subject to discovery in civil litigation, this is a standard question, request these days.
Depressed Lady Loses Benefits Because Of Her Facebook Photos
@bhr:
Hello people, if you apply for a job, if you seek disability benefits, if you are involved in litigation, etc., etc., etc. and you have a social networking site any information on said site will be used against you.
This is now standard and even if its on private it is still subjet to discovery.
Facebook investigation is a lot cheaper than sending out an investigator to video tape you playing soccer when you claim you have a back injury that keeps you from working.
Reader Says He Was Tackled At Walmart For Not Showing Receipt
@rgf207:
I'm a big fan of the no thank you response, has always worked for me, but I also make a point not to shop at Best Buy or Wal-Mart or any other store that has a standing receipt checking rule.

Sue Wal-Mart, doesn't sound like you can sue the guys who tackled you since you can't identify them but since Wal-Mart employee requested tackle by bystanders, one can argue they are responsible.
I would sue and (blame the OP) don't shop at Wal-Mart or any other store that has a policy of receipt checking (except for those stores that require it by contract, i.e. CostCo). Wal-Mart has a standing receipt checking policy, punish them for same by not shopping there.

@qcgallus:
Same as in Florida, concealed weapon law and no requirement to retreat self defense law. Guns and charging crowd could easily equal death.
15 Years In Prison After Cutting The Line At Walmart?
@deniseb:
I'm not a fan of line cutting and I'm not a fan of people in general these days since so many are just plain rude. I don't shop at Wal-Mart, in part, to avoid these people.
But if I'm the last person in the line and someone wants to join their party I am normally agreeable because I want to be nice and kind to people and hope that they will be nice and kind to others . But if I'm not the last in the line I don't think I can waive the line jumping on behalf of the entire line - who knows what kind of rush they are in.
Newly Frugal Behavior Is Permanent, Say Some Consumers
We've changed the way we spend money (did this back in 2007) such that we don't use credit card, we have no debt except for our mortgage, and we use a spending plan/allowance system. Do we spend less money? Not that much less, we just spend it differently, like last year I bought a car but I saved up and bought it with cash (and it is a nice car). We take vacations and travel, but again we save up and we set a budget.
I am actually more loyal to companies and shops that treat me well, I will gladly pay more for goods at my local Mom and Pop store where the clerk knows my name and knows what I there to buy. Sadly, most of the big comnpanies, with the exception of Nordstrom, seem to be treating me worse so I have less loyalty for them.

Fashion Photographer Offers $5,000 Reward For Demi Moore's Hip
I thought that most people understood that magazine photos, esp. fashion mag photos, were photoshopped to within an inch of life.
Then Mr. Sam commented, with real surprise, "Wow, Demi really looks good doesn't she, how old is she? She doesn't have any wrinkles, or fat, or cellulite." And me, "Honey you realize that Demi doesn't look like this in person right, this photo has been altered many times over," Him - "Huh? She looks good." Me - "Yes, in this photo she looks good but this photo is not an accurate portrayal of what she looks like in real life." Him "Huh?"
