@Southern: The thing is, they aren't disabling the hardware. They are preventing you from accessing the XBox Live service. Which explicitly states that modding the console can and WILL result in a ban.

@Powerlurker: We can't be too sure that what he said is what he meant.

I'm assuming in that statement he was trying to imply that he replaced the 20GB HDD provided with his console to the 120GB HDD that you can also purchase separately for said conolse.

@nelsonj1998: In general, banning a console with prevent you from accessing XBL.

It will not prevent you from playing games offline. You just will not be able to connect to the XBL service at all for any reason. As for Games on Demand games that are purchased through XBL, I'm not too sure.

Overall, I think it's a great thing. People are complaining and defending those who pirate media, use Microsoft's services to play said pirated media online and getting punished for doing exactly what they shouldn't have been doing in the first place.

@Southern: That's not what Adhominem is saying. Microsoft can check to see if the game is a legitimate disc or a pirated .iso file. If their software that monitors consoles with XBL and detects that the game is running off the HDD without a proper license (assuming said game was purchased from XBL's Games on Demand), it can be flagged as a modded console.

@Southern: Yes as it requires an internet connection and the only way your console would connect would be through XBL. So banned/modded consoles can and will be eventually restricted the access needed to use Netflix.

@Stoli: Agreed, I just finally got a Jasper model Elite. It's even much more quiet and runs cooler. The RROD is only a threat with the former models. Even, still, MS will repair it free of charge (of course aside from the provision of a box).

@Katsuya Kaiba: Which is still under the term of "modifying". Replacing a fan that Microsoft provided with a 'better one' is still modifying said console.

@Syntania: Yes, but as someone said above me, they can stray from the script. I have worked in fast food when I was younger. Especially, working at a fast food joint, you will learn to memorize things. Otherwise, you're not going to survive.

If the customer wanted a combo, a lot of places have a combo button. So it couldn't have been Quantum Physics for this man just to press the button instead of repeatedly asking the customer if they wanted a drink.

Combos, the last time I checked, comes with a drink. So what's the point of asking for a drink? If they wanted to know what brand of cola or whatever, that could have seriously waited until they finished ordering.

Either way, it was maybe mis-communication, but it still doesn't give the manager the right to act the way he did.

@sibelius: I apologize if I sounded like a jerk as well. Sometimes, some of the comments I read on the Consumerist just blow me away, so I get a little brash once in a while.

You are correct his wording is off. It's the equivalent of the phrase "a dog eating chicken". You can mis-understand what his actual meaning may have been.

What I interpreted seems to be what he meant.
