Target Demands Extra $189 To Exchange Camera No Longer On Sale
No, you didn't say that money for food and shelter are more important than a camera. You said that if she doesn't have a "spare" $600 to buy the camera at normal price (SPARE being extra money, once you've covered your necessities. Otherwise, it would be food money or rent money, not spare money. That's how words work.), then she shouldn't buy the camera at $300. That's precisely what you said. You're an idiot.

The point is that this policy is stupid and makes no sense. Whether or not you got the item cheaper or with bonus stuff on sale has no bearing on switching it out for a working one. Thus, the OP was trying to get in touch with corporate to find out if this is, in fact, actual Target policy, and if so, complain about how stupid the policy is.

It's not that they choose to stick to a script and are unwilling to deviate from it. It's that it's their freaking job. They can't. For one, you aren't important enough for them to lose their job to tell you what you want to hear instead of what they're allowed to tell you. Two, even if they did, that's all they would be doing: Telling you what you wanted to hear. There's a reason they follow the script and tell you how they can't do this or that for you: Because they can't.
Many call center workers have limited power compared to people at the bank / credit union branches, in other departments of a company, etc. You're acting like it's that this person just plain doesn't care about helping you, so they tell you they can't do it and stick to the script just to spite you. It's frustrating to you? It's frustrating to THEM. You REALLY think that if they could just click a button and get you a new card sent out, or authorize a credit to your account or whatever else you're demanding, that they wouldn't do so simply so they can get you to shut up and stop yelling and complaining to them? Instead, they have to sit there and take all the customer's bitching because they have absolutely no way to do thing being requested and have to do as the script says or they lose their job.

The point is that this is a stupid policy that makes no sense. The OP is both informing Consumerist readers of this insanely nonsensical practice, and was trying to speak to Corporate in an attempt to find out why this is / get it fixed. Yes, the OP got his camera exchanged without having to inexplicably pay extra and return the gift card, but the rest of us might not be so "lucky". That's why this was sent to Consumerist.

No. Shut up. This is possibly the stupidest post I've ever seen on Consumerist. So if you don't have an EXTRA $600 to spare, one shouldn't buy a $300 camera that they had the money for? You're honestly going to sit here and judge and claim someone shouldn't buy a $300 camera they have the money for unless they have $900 just laying around "just in case" the store tries to fuck them? That's downright idiotic.
Firefighters Watch Another House Burn To The Ground Because Of Unpaid $75 Fee
God, how do you people not get this? The moment they say "Well, we're here anyway (to make sure the people that DID pay don't lose their home), we might as well put this out", that fire department is done. They will go broke. Because who's going to pay $75 a year for fire service when they can just wait for that once-in-a-lifetime fire to break out and toss $75 to the firemen then? Nobody. If they make an exception even once, everyone's going to see that as a license to stop paying the yearly fee since "They'll just put it out even if I don't pay, so I can save a bit of money by not paying yearly".
So, since people like you and these stories demonize them every time, the actual smart move is this: Since fighting fires costs money and this city has no authority to tax this area for it, they should stop offering service there at all. Let every house outside of their city burn to the ground until these fee-dodging idiots create and fund their own fire department. Or did you forget that they don't have to provide service outside the city at all, and that they're doing a favor to the people that aren't idiots and choose to pay for fire protection?
Bakery: We Lost At Least $19,500 In Groupon Deal
Being more proactive? It says right in the article that SHE wanted the deal to be national, while they outright recommended that it only be kept to a few local cities. She shot herself in the foot here, not Groupon.
Coca-Cola Helps Put Kibosh On Grand Canyon Water Bottle Ban
The point you're completely missing though is that adding those blue recycling bins, while only being a small solution, won't lose them millions in donations from Coke. Because that's exactly what the thing you're complaining would do. It wouldn't stop larger water bottles from being littered. Or Pepsi soft drinks. Or any bottles brought by the park patrons. It would ONLY stop small water bottles sold in the park. While likely losing them millions in support from Coke. It would have virtually no discernible difference in the litter level (since it addresses only one specific type of container and then only those sold in park), but would have a huge difference on their donations from Coke.
Dish Launches Blockbuster Movie Pass to Woo Forlorn Netflix Members
Really? Fuck yes! I've been with BB Online for years now, to the point my plan's grandfathered in to still have the original free game or movie rental e-coupon and I've been plenty happy with it. The only thing that's ever slightly made me waver is Netflix's instant streaming which BB's never offered. If they roll this out to the rest of their customers (especially if they add it at no additional cost like they did games and in-store trade-ins), they'll have made themselves pretty much perfect as this type of service.

How Facebook's Message Spam Filter Lost Me Some Fabulous Prizes
Actually, I'm pretty sure he's just talking about something even simpler, such as the little red number that pops up in the upper left to notify you of new things. Either way, that or an email notification would have notified him of the waiting emails and prevented missing out on the prize.
