They need to remove the condition that you can't re-finance unless the loan is at or below the value of your home.

If you're underwater but still want to take advantage of lower interest rates, you should be allowed to.

I've been told I wouldn't be able to get a refinanced loan unless I owe less than the home is worth.

False. I believe the law does require a business provide for you 2 W-2 documents for free. The first is the original, and you are allowed one dupicate per year.

After that, the law allows that business can charge you a reasonable fee for the cost of re-printing your personal documents. This is to recoup the cost of time and resources to print on expensive paper, and to prevent someone from abusing the requirement to provide the information by making it overly-burdensome on the business.

No business can deny you your tax records if they are the company responsible for keeping them.

They may ask for proof of identity, and may even require a fee. But they cannot deny the information to you.

You can do what some are describing, which is make educated guess and file.

Then, once you get it sorted out, file a correction to your taxes.

Exactly how involved is Obama, how much sway does he have, and how much sway does his opposition have (whether direct or indirect)?

I don't get how the President, whoever he/she is, gets the blame for everything that goes, even when much of it is not in his direct control and still has to make deals with his opposition. If you want to blame someone, perhaps it's those who support big business on virtually every Congressional measure, and who don't support consumers. I'm not naming names or parties, because they exist on both sides.
