B&N Ebook Reader Lets You Loan A Book Just Once

3:07 AM on October 23, 2009

The last eight years, every year in late and frequently humid summers I've moved and along with me a growing pile of books. Currently I'm at about 50 feet stacked end to end; who knows how much they weigh. At no point on my trip up and down the stairs and fire escapes of various cities have I wished for an ebook reader.

When Someone Is Being Rude On An Airplane, Why Don't You Say Something?

4:06 PM on September 23, 2009

As far as I can tell, the reason people feel like they can be rude is because they do it enough without being confronted. If more people spoke out without being worried about *gasp* being yelled at by this already inconsiderate person, the world would be a more bearable place.

Months ago while walking across a bridge in downtown Chicago someone poked me with an umbrella and scratched my face, said nothing and when I said "EXCUSE ME" the man looked at me like I wasn't worth his time, so I threw his umbrella in the river.

Mac Genius Reports Child Porn On Customer's Computer To Police

In high school and early college I worked for a local computer repair shop and this is sort of thing is more common than you might think. We never went looking for files that weren't part of the computer's problem (this was in an age before widespread use of digital cameras, anyway) but turned in three of our regular customers over the course of about 18 months.

Behold, The 10 Most Pet-Friendly Cities

3:31 PM on August 7, 2009

@jvanbrecht:

You're right, I probably should have qualified that. There are breeds of larger dogs that work well in small apartments, but when I first moved to Chicago my first apartment was about 350 square feet - hardly big enough for a human, let alone a 40 pound dog and a human.

Behold, The 10 Most Pet-Friendly Cities

@TinkishDelight:

From what I've experienced in Chicago is that dogs actually get a lot more exercise and quality time with their owners in a big, pet-friendly city. In a city where a private back yard is a rarity people take their pets for walks as opposed to letting Rover out and calling him back in immediately after he finishes his business.

I'm with you on keeping a large dog in a studio or any other small space though, it's incredibly selfish, but anything much bigger than a beagle is in the minority.
