How Much Street Space: Car vs Bus vs Bicycle
I'm not surprised this poster originated in Munich. I visited the city last year, and I've never seen a place where the bikes, cars and pedestrians integrated so flawlessly together. There's bike lanes everywhere, and cyclists follow the same traffic rules (ride on the right, pass on the left). The cars always give right-of-way to cyclists and pedestrians. No traffic congestion, as there weren't as many cars on road (a third of the population are on bikes) so drivers have an easy time getting around. Plenty of public parks and no-car streets for pedestrians. And the subway system was easy and efficient. With the addition of the copious amounts of beer and pork products I consumed, I would move there in a heartbeat.

Should Plastic Shopping Bags Be Banned?
Yes, you're correct. But as I mentioned, the the so-called "plastic" bags being offered in my city for $0.05 are made of degradable corn starch, so the plastic ban still applies. (Calling them "plastic" is just a foregone habit.)
Should Plastic Shopping Bags Be Banned?
Believe me, you will still have PLENTY of plastic shopping bags for your garbage cans. My city has been participating in the plastic bag ban for several years now. I have half a dozen re-usable bags, but every once in a while I don't have one on me - or I don't have enough bags - so I pay $0.05 for an extra plastic bag. My cupboard is still overflowing with more plastic bags than I need.
Another upside to the plastic ban: most of the "plastic" bags are now made of bio-degradable corn starch. Just as sturdy as the regular plastic, but they will eventually compost.

Family Of Four Dies In Sinkhole After Yard Silently Liquefies
Actually, another landslide happened in the region back in the 70's, where I think about 30 people died. The entire town had to be relocated.
What the articles are neglecting to mention is that this plot of land had been owned by this family for 3 generations, without incident - which would probably shed light on why they were living there to begin with. Very sad story, regardless.
