There's A Used Condom In My Room. Does The Hotel Owe Me Anything?
I got a hell of an electrical shock in a hotel room once. In the middle of the night. While half asleep walking to the bathroom.
I had been upgraded to a large suite, it was so large it had two floor outlets in it... I assume at one time there had been tables and lamps in the middle of the room.
Well, the cover was missing from the outlet and a paper clip had somehow fallen into the slot.
I wasn't upset but it was a dangerous situation. I told the manager lady about it in the morning and showed her pictures. I was nice about it but she practically started crying and wanting me to see a doctor "just in case" (I was fine). She gave me the night for free (didn't really matter, it was a business night), a free night in the future, and free breakfast. Such a nice lady... The very next day she sent me a picture and an email telling me how she took the room out of service and had an electrician put new covers in all of the suites that had floor outlets.
Now that was service.
Now, the time that I stayed at the LaQuinta near the airport in Tulsa and my truck was broken into in the parking lot and cleaned out of EVERYTHING (down to the used kleenex in the door pocket), I never heard one word from the manager. The lady at the desk told me the whole thing was on camera for ten bloody minutes while the night clerk (who was supposed to be watching the CCTV) was instead watching the real TV in the breakfast area.
Avis Customers Sue Over E-Z Pass "Convenience" Fee
Got a wierd charge on my credit card last month from the Highway Toll Administration (htallc.com) which is a private company (I initially thought "Administration" implied that it was a governmental entity but I was wrong). This is the company that does the toll collection for National Rental Car, of which I am a frequent customer (they are also likely the company that Avis used but I could be wrong)
I got a toll violation for a freeway outside of Denver Colorado... only 6 hours after I rented a car in Champaign, IL... I had the car for four days and returned it with 89 miles on it.
Even still, I had to appeal to those jokers before they would cancel the charge.

But WHO is going to pay for all of those car upgrades?
I'm sure a computer can drive better than me...
Lenovo Replaces Lemon Laptop... In Theory
I was having trouble with my Lenovo Lemon until I posted a (nice but frustrated) letter on the Lenovo Forums (see http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-and-Z-series/Quality-of-warranty-repair-parts-Levovo-U460/m-p/664669).
Within a few weeks I received a brand new (not refurb) better laptop 16 months after I bought the bad one.
Maybe someone will see your post on the forum and help?
Google's Helpful Self-Driving Car Brings Blind Passenger To Taco Bell
This utopia of "every car talks to each other..." will never happen. This kind of system will be all or nothing. Which means everybody buys a new (expensive!) car or applies significant (expensive!) modifications to their existing cars. Even one non-connected car will screw up the whole system.
People can hardly afford gas at this point.

AT&T Customers Petition CEO To Stop Throttling Unlimited Data Plans
I don't have a "cap"... and I just started my new AT&T contract yesterday, with unlimited data.
Of course, it's a commercial negotiated plan... I'm interested to see if they would throttle one of these plans.

Just. Recycle. It.
Or throw it away if it makes you happier. My recycle bin sits by my garage, very convenient. Since I have to pay the city for recycling, I might as well make it worth it.

Are Bank Tellers Going The Way Of The Dinosaur?
Bank rumors I have heard that never came through:
#1 Banks will charge you a fee to use a real human teller.
Nope -- I use tellers all the time and it's still free.
#2 Due to government regulation, rewards credit cards will go away.
Nope -- I still earn miles on my trusty American Airlines Mastercard
#3 ATM fees will go through the roof
Nope -- Mine still average $1 to $3, and my bank kindly refunds them
#4 Banks will actually CHARGE YOU for letting you keep your money in a checking account
Nope -- Mine is still free
#5 Bank tellers are going away...
We'll see. I doubt it.
