Copies of the new "Grand Theft Auto" game are being stolen by UPS drivers en route to retailers. Guess this game causes crime after all. [ArsTechnica]

Come on, seriously. It's a game. It can't cost more than $50. I don't care what your UPS salary is -- you've known it was coming out for HOW long? Just buy the damn thing yourself. It's not worth losing your job over. There is never an acceptable excuse for stealing.
How long before we get a Jack Thompson bitchfest, though?
LOL worthy, be honest everyone.
@Buran:
Was advertised here for $59.99.
Ironic
Oh good grief, the stupid are stealing one copy for their personal use. 3 employees were busted for stealing a total of 3 games.
End of story, time to move on.
Is UPS pressing charges? If not, I'm going down there for an application TODAY!
Brown theft auto?
i want one of them stolen copies so i can play it before it comes out... oh well
cmon ups man, hook me up!!!!
@Buran: well if the ups guy would have pre-ordered, apparently it wouldn't have made it through the mail anyhow. lol.
I don't get it. I mean, I'm sure you could get a few $$$ for the pre-released game on eBay... but there have *got* to be more valuable packages in the truck. Like laptop-sized boxes from Apple, for example.
I call shenanigans.
While demand is high for the game, the same is true for other games like Like Super Smash Brothers, Madden ect.
There will be plenty of copies at your favorite big box store.
Actually, for a while, laptop thefts were the bigger concern for shipping companies. Several manufacturers made it pretty clear what boxes had laptops in them- and the size (easy to hide) and value density/ease of sale ratio made them a favorite target.
Although I think the shippers and manufacturers have adjusted their practices accordingly.
they can't just go around opening people's packages - that's just wrong! don't they know proper package theft etiquette?
step 1: place package at very back of truck - preferably with 15-25% of total mass hanging off the bed, though no more than 30% as that would be cheating.
step 2: climb into cab & depress accelerator to the floor
step 3: stop truck & exit to collect fallen goods
& there you have it. the "proper" way to take possession of items that have "fallen off the truck".
@Buran: $59.99... Not counting special editions or bundles...
@Buran: See, people have the wrong ideas from movies. CRIMINALS ARE FOR THE MOST PART DUMB AS HELL and don't think of long-term consequences for the short-term catch.
Heh, I have only a Wii, so I can't order a copy to be stolen by the UPS drivers or the UPS store where my package box is.
@Buran: The bitchfest started long, long ago
@theblackdog: watch out though! i hear mario party 26 is hot, hot, HOT!
I forget which one, but some game retailer actually mentioned this in their disclaimer, as in "we will not guarantee against your truck being hijacked."
