Miami police are having a fun chat with a 73-year-old guy who drove his Chevy Cobalt onto the main runway at Miami International Airport. For the moment, police do not believe the incident was "terrorism related," saying, "It's a possibility that this guy lost his way or was disoriented." They quickly added, "But until they finish interviewing him, we won't know for sure." [The Miami Herald]

At least they are being reasonable about this.
He should have just showed his.... oh forget it...
Good thing he didn't have any tubes of toothpaste and/or nipple piercings, or he would have been in REALLY big trouble!
Can we PLEASE stop throwing the T-word around whenever anyone does anything remotely odd? PLEASE?
I'm get he had his left turn blinker going the entire time he was rolling down the runway.
@Buran:
thank you... I think I'm going to use that as my signature from now on.
You're 100% correct. Why should every story automatically DEFAULT to terrorism? Just ridiculous
@ridbaxter:
You made me laugh :)
Shouldn't there be something keeping people from driving onto a runway... intentionally or otherwise?
@ridbaxter:
I, also, got a good chuckle out of that.
"[...] but 9/11 changed everything," he said.
Now that 9/11 has come and gone (nearly seven years ago, people), everything is terr'ist related.
Oh noes! The disoriented 73 year old man might be a terrorist! I'm sure glad the police is onto him!
Xkeeper: Gotta keep the scare train rolling.
Anyway, I'd be checking for ties between the old guy and the company that makes or installed the new barrier system.
@Xkeeper: And do we run around screaming that every unfamiliar plane that flies overhead in Hawaii is Japanese?
No.
Ah Florida, how I miss thee and your elderly drivers. I used to wonder how people who couldn't find their way out of a parking lot or drove on the wrong side of the road in front of my kids' school managed to find their way from the NE to FL as snowbirds. The auto train. Thanks, Amtrak!
9/11 did change everything. It turned everyone into blithering morons with no common sense.
I'm so relieved we're protected while they question a disoriented 73 year old. Here's hoping they give him a blanket and a cookie and call his daughter to come pick him up.
Wait, because it was normal and okay to drive your car onto the runway before 9/11?
9/11 has become a copout excuse for everything. It's over. R.I.P. to those who passed, but lets move one, really...
suprised he wasnt tased.
@ninabi: No no, they pack their car in a really big box and do this:

What the hell is that plane doing on I-95?
You mean this isn't I-95?
Oooops.
There was a time that those were adequate sufficient, but 9/11 changed everything
because 9/11 was the INVENTION of terrorism, you know.
How many of these incidents is it going to take until they FINALLY require MANDATORY license evaluations every year after you turn 65. Im sick of hearing the excuse that they were disoriented. How many people have to die at farmers markets and other places of business because old people suck at driving. They also need to raise the age required to start driving to 18 as well
Nice...not operational till May 19....ok terrorist you now know what day to shoot for.
