While analysts speculate on Taco Bell's financial future, Congress is taking a look at Food Safety issues. From the Beacon Journal:
One of her priorities will be to reintroduce legislation she co-sponsored with Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., repeatedly killed in the Republican-controlled Congress, to create a single food-safety agency. Different agencies, she pointed out, regulate Taco Bell's products. The Food and Drug Administration oversees produce while the Agriculture Department is supposed to monitor the meat and cheese.
So... is this "the department of homeland food security?" Cool? The Taco Bell e. coli outbreak was probably caused by tainted lettuce, which taco bell uses in 70% of its food. Yum, yum. —MEGHANN MARCO
