Netflix Goes Down, The Internet Proceeds To Freak The Heck Out

netflixdownWere you just settling in for yet another episode of Gilmore Girls/The Walking Dead/S? Tough luck, as it appears that as of this writing just after 9 p.m. ET, many Netflix customers are reporting problems watching content on the site.

Yours truly is currently on a streaming binge of the most insistent kind, and when I couldn’t get my content of choice, instead receiving an error notice, a quick search on Twitter showed that I’m not alone — Americans spread around the country have reported outages that have left the unable to cope, in addition to at least one person in Canada. Oh, the horror.

A scan of the comments on DownDetector.com for Netflix shows a slew of disgruntled customers as well, from Kansas to San Diego, Georgia up to New York. Some users have reported regaining access, while others (including this person typing) were still unable to stream as of about 9:15.

We’ve reached out to Netflix and will update this post if we hear anything back. In the meantime, if you’ve managed to get a response from Netflix about an outage you’re experiencing, drop us a line at tips@consumerist.com.

UPDATE: As of about 9:30, I’ve been able to stream Netflix content in New York, but it appears there are still those of you out there in the dark. Nothing back from Netflix yet.
