Uber Testing On-Demand Delivery Service “Corner Store” In D.C.

Uber announced it will be testing a convenience store delivery service for Washington D.C. residents.

Uber announced it will be testing a convenience store delivery service for Washington, D.C. residents.

Uber has already dipped its toes into the world of delivery service. First with limited-time deliveries of sometimes-melted ice cream and cuddly kittens. Now the service aims to provide everyday items for consumers who just can’t make it to one of the many convenience stores littering the nation’s capital.

According to a report from VentureBeat, Uber will soon begin testing an on-demand delivery service in the Washington, D.C., area.

Corner Store will allow a limited set of Uber users the ability to order convenience store goods with no delivery fee from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

To place an order, a user opens the Corner Store option on the Uber app and if a driver is available, the company will message a link to items available for purchase, such as allergy medicine, feminine care products, cough and cold medicine, candy and more.

Unlike the company’s previous delivery-type program, Uber Rush, the new service will make deliveries via car instead of bike messenger.

Uber officials tell VentureBeat that the new service is “limited-time-only” in certain neighborhoods of D.C. and will run for a few weeks.
