If Hospital Names Its ER After Abercrombie & Fitch, Will Patient Gowns Come In XL Sizes?

Ohio State University is reportedly gearing up to name its new emergency department after Abercrombie & Fitch, as a nod to the $10 million the Ohio-based company donated to the medical center in recent years. We can’t help but imagine half-clothed doctors with rippling muscles, and artfully ripped denim hospital gowns with a surfeit of cargo pockets (the better to carry your IV bag in?) — but not in XL or XXL sizes for women, natch.

This isn’t the first hospital to give a name nod to A&F — last year another Columbus hospital named its emergency center after the brand, reports the Columbus Dispatch.

The Ohio State Board of Trustees will vote the proposal Friday to create the Abercrombie & Fitch Emergency Department, a $1.1 billion plan that would double the size of the current department.

“As a nonprofit health system, we value and recognize the benefits of philanthropic support to our endeavors to improve health care in our community,” a medical center spokesman said.

Along with that chunk of change Abercrombie has donated, the spokesman notes that it also helped to create the Abercrombie & Fitch Chair in Inflammatory Bowel Disease faculty position.

While it is of course a wonderful and generous thing to give money where it’s needed and can do some good for people, we just hope CEO Mike Jeffries realizes that not all patients will be cool and thin.
