Delta Breaks Golf Club Of Pro Sponsored By Southwest

In what we assume is a mere coincidence and not an instance of corporate hooliganism, someone at Delta Air Lines managed to snap the head off the golf club of a golf pro whose clubs happened to be in a bag branded by Southwest Airlines.

Champions Tour pro Kenny Perry recently flew on Delta to Washington state to the Boeing Classic (another airline reference) at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge. But when he went to the driving range to get his swing on, he noticed there was a huge problem.

“I pulled my clubs out and Delta broke my driver, the one I won all of my tournaments with this year,” Perry told the Seattle Times before the tournament last week. “It broke the head right off the shaft. I’m very upset at this point.”

“I represent Southwest Airlines and it’s in a Southwest (bag),” he adds. “I’m pretty bummed out.”

Since this is the club he’d been doing so well with in recent tournaments, he had it reshafted in the hope that he might be able to save the driver.

“But shafts don’t duplicate,” he explains. “As much as they say they’re the same, they’re not the same…. if my driver isn’t any good, I’m going to be in trouble this week.”

In the end, Perry tied for 20th at the Boeing Classic, ranking near the bottom of his tour finishes this year. Of course, he’s won more than $1.6 million already in 2013, so you can’t feel all that bad for the guy.
