Snow Cone Means Something Else Entirely When The Ice Cream Truck Driver Is Peddling Drugs

Whether you love the jingle-jangle of the ice cream truck cruising your neighborhood or can’t stand it, for most of us it’s a mobile sign of childhood, sweet treats and hot summer days. So it’s a bummer that someone could (allegedly) turn it into a roving drug dispensary. Cops busted a Brooklyn man recently accused of selling cocaine — alongside the real snow cones and ice cream — from his ice cream truck. Innocence = lost.

The New York Daily News says the man was caught on surveillance video, handing an undercover cop a plastic bag with about 13 grams of cocaine, along with an ice cream cone.

“He brazenly sold large quantities of drugs right from the ice cream truck while children bought their ice cream just a few inches away,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes.

The video reportedly shows the undercover cop walking with the man to his truck, parked in a busy spot, and handing over $830 in cash in a hat. The suspect then allegedly hands the hat back with its new stash of cocaine. Then it’s on to the business of delicious, cold treats.

The suspect asks the undercover cop what flavor he wants — “Vanilla,” is the reply, which isn’t even a code word for some other drug situation. Asking for sprinkles or not is also, surprisingly, not any kind of code.

Once the soft serve changes hands, the video is done and the suspect is in hot water. Without any cool treats to ease the sting, we presume.
