Sears Re-Announces Recall Of Dehumidifiers Because No One Prefers Fires Over Humidity

Would you rather have a humid living environment, or one that’s on fire? Ding ding — we’re pretty sure the owners of 800,000 dehumidifiers sold by Sears would agree with you. The retailer is again reminding consumers of a recall for a product line that had issues last summer, again, over fires linked to using the Kenmore dehumidifiers. Now might be a good time to check on your dehumidifier.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says there have been seven more reports of shorting and fire linked to the Kenmore items, one which resulted in a severe burn to a consumer’s foot. Three of those fires caused more than $300,000 in property damage.

Last year’s recall was linked to more than 100 reports of problems with the dehumidifiers —including property damage and smoke inhalation — making this quite the headache for Sears overall.

Pay attention, dehumidifier owners, for real this time: The recall includes 35-, 50- and 70-pint dehumidifiers with a Kenmore logo, which were manufactured by LG Electronics between 2003 and 2005.

Model numbers:

35-pint (2004) – 580.54351400
50-pint (2003) – 580.53509300
70-pint (2003) – 580.53701300
70-pint (2004) – 580.54701400
70-pint (2005) – 580.54701500
