Guy Who Paid $289 For An Aaron Hernandez Jersey Doesn’t Want His Wife To Know

hernandezebayNow that New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez has been accused of murder, there are likely plenty of fans willing to unload their jerseys with his name on them. But who would be into owning a piece of memorabilia with such a connection? A whole lot of people, it seems. At least one has sold for $289 on eBay, and that seems to be somewhat of a bargain price.

In the case of one fan who spoke to the Boston Globe (via Deadspin), he sold his #81 jersey for $289 over the weekend.

“I thought about giving it to Goodwill,” he said, “but I didn’t think anybody would want it.”

Instead, thinking he’d get maybe $15 for it, he put it on eBay and got way more than expected.

As for the guy he sold it to? According to the seller, that fellow doesn’t want his wife to know about that particular purchase.

Those who put jerseys up for sale might’ve sold before the boom hit (and yes, that felt kind of icky to write): There are currently multiple jerseys up for auction for as high as a current top bid of $1,025 (autographed) with time left still for bids to climb even higher.

While some fans are turning infamy into cold hard cash, the team is allowing fans to trade in their #81 jerseys July 6-7 for others sporting the names of Patriots players without a charge of murder tied to their name.
