Time To Face The Mochafrappuchocalatte Music: Starbucks To Post Calorie Counts

Like avoiding eye contact with that vague acquaintance from work — the one you have absolutely nothing to say to — who ends up in your train car on the way home, it’s inevitable. You’re going to probably end up looking at Starbucks’ new calorie count postings because they’re there, you know they’re there, and it’s better to just get it over with. Say hello to the future.

The ubiquitous mermaidean company says it’ll begin putting the calorie counts for drinks on its menus nationwide next week. It’s just in time, as a federal regulation requiring it to do so is about to go into effect, reports the Associated Press.

That means that while before you could be blissfully unaware of the 300 calories in a tall/small caramel Frappuccino, or the 230 calories in a small iced Caffee Mocha, now it won’t be so easy.

And then there are the pastries — starting June 25 you’ll realize that a blueberry scone clocks in at 460 calories while a Morning Bun is slightly better at 350.

This is all due to a regulation linked to the Food and Drug Administration that says companies with more than 20 locations must post calorie information on their menus.
