H&R Block Sending $25 To Customers Impacted By Filing Delay

Last month the Internal Revenue Service said H&R Block had bungled over 600,000 tax returns, potentially causing refund delays for those customers. The tax preparation firm says to make up for that glitch, it’ll be sending out $25 gift cards to any customers who filed their taxes at company-owned H&R Block locations and were impacted by the processing delay.

The snafu involved customers claiming certain education credits, which require Form 8863. H&R Block blamed a recent change in how the IRS processes that form for the mistakes.

Delays were expected of up to six weeks, but H&R says more than 90% of customers hit by the delay have received their refunds by now or have been notified to expect them soon, reports CNNMoney.

It’s unclear how many people will receive the $25 gift cards, but the company said to expect them in the mail soon. And please, H&R Block is begging you not to be scared off by this tax season’s mistakes because it’s totally not the company’s fault.

“The problem was a system disconnect in processing the form that unfortunately further delayed the return. This delay was not caused by something the tax professional did — or did not do,” H&R Block said in a statement.
