The folks at Publix Super Markets have recalled their ‘Publix Deli Tri Fruit and Grain Salad’ out of concern that it may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, which is not something you want to be eating.

According to the FDA, Publix learned about the potential contamination from Allison’s Gourmet Kitchens, which actually supplies the salad to the chain.

The recalled salads, UPC # 41415-39662, were distributed to Publix stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

All product sold between Dec. 2012 and March 26, 2013, is involved in the recall.

For those unfamiliar with Listeria monocytogenes, consuming it can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Even healthy individuals can enjoy symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. And in pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

Luckily, Publix says it knows of no illnesses related to the recall.

If you have some of this stuff in your fridge, you can return it to Publix for a full refund. You can also call Publix Customer Care Center at 1-800-242-1227.
