FireMe Helps The World Discover How You Really Feel About Your Job

An exploration of excellent decision making.

FireMe: An exploration of excellent decision making.

Do you hate your job? Do you love social media? Do you make the mistake of combining the two? If so, you may find yourself featured on FireMe, a research project that highlights public tweets from people talking $@#% about their boss and/or employment situation.

According to TechCrunch, the site, the brainchild of a Brazilian Ph.D student at the LS3 Research Center, has a concept and functionality similar to “Please Rob Me”, and like that site, FireMe allows you to check your own Twitter feed for “fireable” updates.

You could, if you were so inclined, also use that feature to examine your coworker’s feeds for impropriety. But you don’t want to be that person, do you? It’s bad enough you broke up the office March Madness pool. Sheesh.

In an interview with the WSJ, one of the project’s participants explained the motivation behind creating such a seemingly dangerous thing:

“We all know the stories about people getting divorced because of a Facebook status message or getting fired, and we wanted to investigate what kind of people actually post that kind of message.”

And are they at all concerned that this little project will actually get people fired? “I truly hope no one gets fired because of FireMe! I hope people get responsible,” says the PhD student behind the idea. “I am particularly concerned that at some point, someone will blame us.”
