Wait, Did Logitech Just Commandeer My Mouse And ‘Like’ Itself On Facebook?

Kathryn bought and installed her new mouse, and she noticed something weird. Really weird. She saw a flurry of windows opening when she plugged it in, and assumed that it was some kind of installation function. Then she visited Facebook and noticed that she had “Liked” Logitech. She likes Logitech products, don’t get her wrong, but she doesn’t Facebook “like” them. Except she did. Or someone did.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I bought a new Logitech wireless mouse the other day. The only installation it requires is to pull it out of the package and plug the receiver in. I already had a Logitech wireless mouse and love it, so when I needed a second on, it was the logical choice.

I noticed some very brief windows opening & closing when I plugged it in, but I figured it was my system processing the hardware.

But then I noticed an item in my newsfeed that had been put there by Logitech sharing an item. I clicked over to see why I was getting stuff from Logitech, and right there, the “Liked” button was clicked on their page.

I know for a fact, I’ve never liked their Logitech page. I “unliked” it right then & there.

“That can’t be right,” we said to ourselves. Maybe she clicked it by mistake. Maybe someone else clicked it while using her computer. Has this happened to you? Let us know at tips@consumerist.com. This is a good example of why you probably shouldn’t leave social media accounts logged in all of the time….even if everyone actually does.

We contacted Logitech to see what they have to say about it. We’ll let you know what we hear back.

Update: A Logitech representative told us:

This is not something we have ever seen before and is not something that Logitech has built into any of its software.
