Anheuser-Busch Mocks Watery Lawsuit In New Ad: Maybe You Just Drank Actual Water?

In an ad run in 10 major U.S. newspapers yesterday AB InBev pokes fun at the lawsuit with a can of “drinking water” and the headline, “They must have tested one of these.”

It’s a can of water that the company donates to the American Red Cross for disaster relief, points out Bloomberg News. So maybe those fellas just drank water instead, get it? Because that would explain why it tastes like water to them. Zing!

The rest of the ad is kind of a smooth move — it at once dismisses the claims and then pumps up AB InBev’s own reputation:

It would have been easy to get because we’ve done it 71 million times. That’s how many cans of pure drinking water we’ve donated to the American Red Cross and disaster relief organizations worldwide.

But in every other circumstance, the Anheuser-Busch logo is our ironclad guarantee that the beer in your hand is the best beer we know how to brew. We take no shortcuts and make no exceptions. Ever.

Two brothers filed suit last week saying they’d done enough research — namely, drinking cases of Budweiser every month — to know that the beer doesn’t contain the amount of alcohol it claims. The company denied the allegations at that time, saying the lawsuit had no merit.
