Petco Really Wants Me To Visit My Brand New Local Store… 850 Miles Away

Petco may not understand that all the states beginning with "M" are located near each other.

At first, Consumerist reader Steven was pleasantly surprised to get a 10% coupon from the folks at Petco to celebrate the opening of a new store. Then when he saw the address of that particular store he just had to laugh.

As you can see from the above coupon, Steven lives in Maryland, not far from Baltimore or Washington, D.C., or any of the dozens of Petco outlets in the region, but one heck of a long drive to the store listed on the coupon.

“I’m amused that Petco thinks a store in Missouri is my store since 1) I’ve never been to Missouri, and 2) it’s not exactly close to Maryland where I live,” he writes.

In fact, per Google, the drive from Columbia, MD, to the Petco in St. Louis is anywhere from 823 miles to 871 miles and will probably require at least 12-13 hours of driving.

“I suppose the fact that both state names start with ‘M’ may explain the confusion,” jokes Steven, pointing out that Petco also managed to completely screw up the address of the St. Louis store by transposing the street and city names.

Yeah, so maybe this coupon isn’t as restrictive as that Sears one from the other day, but at least you didn’t need to plan for food, gas and pee breaks just to use that coupon.
