Lawyer Knows The Best Time To Give Someone A Free Divorce Is On Valentine’s Day

While we’re sure there are plenty of people out there who are just over the moon with joy that Valentine’s Day is almost here (“Hearts! Chocolate! Squee!” etc.), there are those of us who dread that day’s arrival with every fiber of our being. For that second set, a Michigan lawyer has come up with a genius way to give someone a Valentine’s gift they actually need — a free divorce.

It’s fun to imagine the man sitting at a desk handing out “you are now divorced” tickets to a waiting line of people, but in reality he’s just offering up one free divorce, ” limited to an uncontested divorce with no or minimum child custody issues,” according to his site (via CBS Detroit).

You’ve also got to be a Michigan resident and make a pretty compelling case for why you should be the winner of the free divorce. But why is he doing this? Well, it’s a pretty Valentine-y reason — out of the goodness of his heart. And we’re sure the buzz ain’t bad for his business. [Cue two birds, one stone]

“The idea came about when people come into my office on a regular basis who want to get a divorce and they’re struggling right now financially and they just don’t have the funds or means to do that. And so that’s why I decided to do it,” the lawyer told WWJ Newsradio 950.

He picked Valentine’s Day because as we all know, it’s an awful holiday if you’re not in a great romantic situation.

“What makes Valentine’s Day even hard for some people that are in that situation that are in a bad marriage and you’re living with the person, and it makes Valentine’s Day a very, very tough day for people — when you’re living with someone you no longer want to be married to,” he explained.

The deadline for entries is Feb. 12 and the winner will be announced, of course, on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
