U-Verse Outage Hits Some AT&T Customers In Southern States

Since yesterday afternoon, some people in various parts of the southeastern U.S. — and as far west as Texas — have been without AT&T U-Verse service.

It’s unclear exactly how widespread the outage is, but one Consumerist reader says the AT&T rep she spoke to said there were customers in 18 states without service.

While most of the complaints we’ve heard have been from customers in Florida, this forum thread on the AT&T site goes back to yesterday afternoon and shows many customers in Texas also appear to have been affected. WXIA-TV in Atlanta reports that there have been outages there as well.

The Miami Herald reports that some area customers have begun seeing their U-Verse service come back on. A rep for the company told the Herald that, “A team of engineers and technicians are working to resolve the issue, and we apologize for any inconvenience to our customers.”

The problem is relegated to only U-Verse customers and has not impacted AT&T’s landline or wireless services.

We’re waiting for the latest statement from AT&T on the matter and will update when we hear something.
