With Average Prices Of $3K Already, So Begins The 2013 Super Bowl Ticket Frenzy

Hurray! Your team won the AFC or the NFC championships, congratulations and no the rest of us aren’t bitter that Aaron Rodgers isn’t in the Super Bowl*. If you’ve had your heart set on rooting on either the Baltimore Ravens or the San Francisco 49ers in the big game, we hope you’ve been saving up. Ticket prices are already going for an average of about $3,195.14.

But let’s say maybe you get lucky and find a cheap ticket — well, cheap in this case is $2,168. That’s lowest resale price as of today, says ticket tracker TiqIQ (via ABC News). That’s still a hefty chunk of change.

At this same time last year the average price was a bit higher at $3,678.12 and the lowest price a bit lower at $2,037.

Experts say this year’s match-up is somewhat of a “golden game” for ticket sales for a couple of reasons. One, advertisers and the press just eat up the fact that the coach of the 49ers, Jim Harbaugh, just so happens to be the brother of the Ravens coach, John Harbaugh. Harbaughpalooza = cash money, apparently.

Another boon for sales is San Francisco’s large fan market that is amped up to see the team win its first Super Bowl for the first time since 1994.

Of course, the National Football League doesn’t set these sky-high prices. The official cost of tickets for the  Super Bowl’s upper bowl, lower bowl and club seats are $850, $950 and $1,250 for 2013, according an NFL spokesman.

He added that buyers should beware, as the only guaranteed secondary ticket seller of the NFL and thus the only way to legitimately buy resold tickets is through the NFL Ticketmaster Ticket Exchange.

If you go elsewhere, you’re on your own.

*Nope. Not bitter at all.
