If You Don’t Want Bed Bugs You Might Want To Reconsider Living In These Cities

Yes, we know, that headline is silly. Because the truth is? No one wants bedbugs and if you say you do you are a dirty liar. Just the mention of the critters sends shivers skittering over many people’s spines because well, bed bugs are awful, itchy, expensive to get rid of and a flat-out nightmare. And there are some cities who have it worse than others

Bed bugs can live in basically anything — the frames of furniture, cushions, books and of course, beds. And according to  ABC News, they’re on the rise again. That’s good business for pest companies like Orkin, which just released its U.S. rankings for the worst cities to live in if you don’t want bed bugs. And again, yes, we know, no one wants bed bugs.

The top 10 U.S. cities where bed bugs are thriving happily are (drumroll?):

1. Chicago
2. Detroit
3. Los Angeles
4. Denver
5. Cincinnati
6. Columbus, Ohio
7. Washington, DC
8. Cleveland
9. Dallas
10. New York City

Orkin says it’s had an almost 33% boost in bed bug business compared to 2011, a dire sign.

“This list shows that bed bugs continue to be a problem throughout the U.S.,” Ron Harrison, Ph.D., Orkin entomologist and Technical Services Director said in a statement. “Based on the diversity of cities on the list, we all need to be very cautious when we travel — whether it is business or pleasure, or to visit family, friends or vacation.”

If you think you might maybe have bed bugs, if you have even the slightest suspicion, call in a pest expert as soon as possible to root out the little suckers before they take over your life. Believe us, you’ll be glad you did.
