Have you bought a frozen meal from Trader Joe’s recently? Check your freezer, because a batch of their butter chicken meals, which are imported from Canada, have been recalled for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria of nastiness.

What happens if you’re infected with Listeria? Nothing good. It’s particularly dangerous for pregnant women, since it can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, or meningitis in a newborn. For most people, it can cause fever and muscle aches, then headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions, but is most likely to cause plain old gastrointestinal distress. In people with compromised immune systems, it can cause septicemia or meningitis.

If you have one of these meals in your freezer, it’s production code 2012-10-3 and lot number 30512 that may be contaminated. There are no reported illnesses  yet, but the US Department of Agriculture and TJ’s would like to keep it that way. If you have one of the meals, return it to the store for a refund.
