Being An IKEA Member Means You Get The Honor Of Paying $10 More Than Everyone Else

The opposite of a perk.

IKEA has a sweet name for its loyalty program — IKEA Family. The idea is that as a family member, IKEA can gather you in its loving arms and hug you close while you choose furniture bearing names you can’t pronounce for your home on the cheap. And as with most loyalty clubs, Family members are supposed to be cut in on some sweet discounts. Too bad that whole math thing had to get in the way at one Texas location.

Consumerist reader Colin spotted this non-deal deal for family members at his local IKEA and wrote, “What a deal!” While there is no such thing as a sarcasm font (more’s the pity), we think he’s being sarcastic. See, because that KAUSTBY chair is usually only $29.99 but for Family members, it’s $39.99.

If I’m doing my math correctly, that’s $10 more. And why pay more if you could be spending that dough on Swedish meatballs and lingon berries in the cafeteria?

A customer might want to disown his or her IKEA family in this case and just go with the cheaper score.
