Sesame Street Issues Cease & Desist To Sellers Of Sexy Big Bird Outfits Because That’s Just Wrong

Let’s not get into the whole “why do women (and some men!) always feel the need to sexify Halloween costumes and turn otherwise innocent outfits into slutty ones?” thing. But Sexy Big Bird? That won’t fly with Sesame Street Workshop, and it’s cracking down on all those illicit costume peddlers by issuing a cease and desist to a site selling costumes like “”Exclusive Yellow Dress and Stockings” with a Big Bird headpiece that was licensed to another company.

A rep from Sesame Street Workshop told Buzzfeed, “our legal team has sent a cease and desist letter to the website selling them, will monitor the site, and follow up accordingly to make sure the items in question are removed.”

It’s not just Big Bird, either — there’s sexy stuff on sale to dress up as Bert and Ernie and other beloved muppets. While the complete costumes are often pictured together, the components are sold separately in many cases, in order to sidestep violating Sesame Street’s licensing rules.

Sesame Street depends on selling licensing rights to manufacturers to make money, but it definitely doesn’t approve of anyone taking those beloved children’s characters and sexxxing them up.

So if you’re going to tarnish Big Bird’s lovable name, at least do it on your own with supplies from the craft store and those old standbys, fishnet tights. And enjoy the walk home the next morning.
