Guy Nabbed At LAX In Body Armor Thought He’d Get Past Officials With Bag Full Of Weapons

We’re not sure exactly how this guy was planning on getting past airport security, decked out as he was in body armor and flame retardant leggings and carrying a laundry list of air travel no-no’s in his checked luggage: a smoke grenade, three leather-coated black-jack billy clubs, a collapsible baton, a full-face respirator, several knives and a hatchet. You know, no big deal.

The man was headed for his home city of Boston from Japan, and was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport when a Customs and Border Protection officer noticed he was decked out in a bullet-proof vest. The officer asked him there was possibly anything he’d like to declare, which is when the man admitted he had a knife.

It wasn’t just a knife — the man’s bag was search and officiasl found the aforementioned stash of suspicious items. The smoke grenade alone would’ve been a mess if unleashed: ABC News says it’s classified as an explosive and could fill a 40,000-cubic-foot-space with smoke and could also cause a fire.

And those weapons weren’t even the extent of his alarming tool chest: There were also body bags, a tyvex biohazard suit, various masks, duct tape, hand cuffs, leg irons, flex cuffs, oven mitts and cooking tongs. Sounds like Dexter’s ideal travel buddy.

It’s still unclear why he had all those questionable items, but the LAPD and FBI are investigating the incident while the man is still in custody in federal custody in L.A.
