Only a few months after enacting a ban on the hundreds of medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles, the L.A. City Council voted 11-2 last night in favor of repealing the ban.

“Where does anybody go, even a councilman go, to get his medical marijuana?” asked Councilman Bill Rosendahl, who has a rare form of cancer and uses marijuana to cope with the side effects of chemotherapy.

The Council members who are still in favor of the ban say it’s pointless to keep the dispensaries open when they are being raided by federal officers and receiving shut-down notices.

Some members of the Council are asking the state for more stringent regulations on dispensaries and the doctors who prescribe medical marijuana. For all the patients who actually need the medicine, there are all the people gaming the system by claiming to have a malady they don’t. The Council suggests that patients who receive medical marijuana be required to demonstrate six months of medical history.
