Paying The Bartender With The Credit Card You Just Stole From Him Will Get You No Beer

Returning to the scene of the crime is one mistake that often gets criminals caught — but what about returning the actual item pilfered during a crime to its rightful owner? That will also get you in trouble, of course. A man who stole a credit card didn’t realize when he tried to pay for his beer that the bartender was also his recent victim.

According to Miami Beach police, the man broke into a car in a parking garage on Monday night and came away with a stolen credit card. In his quest to grab a cold one, he walked into a bar soon after and handed over the card to pay for his beer. That’s when the bartender noticed, oh, hey, that’s my own darn name on the card.

The bartender kept his wits about him and had security call the cops. They showed up and charged the man with credit card fraud and theft, although he claimed he just found the card on the ground in the parking garage.

The Miami Herald says the man, who is apparently homeless, was arrested and booked into the county jail. All for the love of beer.
