Arsonists Torch Playground So 7-Year-Old Starts Lemonade Stand For Rebuilding Fund

First of all — to any would-be arsonists out there? It’s a really crappy thing to do, burning down an elementary school’s playground.  But even though fiery actions taken by arsonists torched a 7-year-old New Hampshire girl’s school playground, she’s not letting it get her down. Instead, she’s opened a lemonade stand to raise money for a rebuilding effort.

CBS Boston says she’s been welcoming customers from all over the area, including members of the local fire department, in her efforts to get kids a new structure.

“I thought it would be good for this school. We would have more fun stuff to play on,” she explained.

By the time she closed up shop for the day, she’d made $273. Sure, it’s a far cry from the estimated $40,000 that will be needed to rebuild the playground, but it’s about more than just the money. Her principal lauded her for inspiring others to pitch in.

“So there is a possibility, depending on fundraising and insurance, that we might be able to rebuild a structure similar to what we had,” the principal said. “We always say something good comes out of something bad. It’s brought our school community even closer, (with) people lending a hand to help.”

We hope there’s never a time when lemonade stands are replaced by like, social media lemonade stands or virtual lemonade stands.  Nothing makes a kid feel better than selling a cup of sweet stuff and turning a profit, no matter how tiny and no matter what the reason for setting up shop is.
