Unlike other animals with bad reputations when it comes to visiting stores with say, delicate products, we’re seeing quite an uptick in generally well-mannered bears dropping by retail establishments without doing any damage. A bear in Colorado had a bit of a sweet tooth recently and broke into a candy store to satisfy it while managing to be very tidy about his looting.
The black bear stopped by the candy store in Estes Park a few times early one morning, going in through the front door and being careful not to disrupt anything. Well, besides some treats he pilfered to take on the go, including English toffee and chocolate-chip cookies dipped in caramel and chocolate — cookie bears, to be exact, reports the Associated Press.
He was caught on tape at the store, prying open the door and snatching up some candy near the door. He ate his loot outside and then came back for round after round, until he’d been in the store seven times in 15 minutes. A car going by might have finally scared him away from his binge site.
With nary a wrapper in sight, the owner thinks the bear just ate those, too.
“He was very clean and very careful. He ate a lot of candy,” she said, adding that she’s not in favor of killing bears who end up in human areas. ”We’re in their turf, and you just put up with these things when they happen,” she said.
*Thanks for the tip, R.G.!
Careful bear raids Colorado candy shop [Associated Press]

Sounds like the bear just had a rumbly in the tumbly. Bother.
lol thanks for the laugh.
Bears eat free at candy stores and ducks eat free at Subway!
I miss Mitch Hedburg D:
This happens in Gatlinburg Tenn. frequently.
I wish this bear could come to PA and have a talk with my neighborhood bear. I don’t mind the occasional clean out the bird feeder moment when I forget to take it in at night, but this last time, he took the suet cake holder instead of just eating the suet cake and tossing the holder aside. And, he didn’t have the class to wait until it was dark – this theft occurred during evening hours, but it was still light outside.
So I take it the store owner didn’t try to run the bear over with her car?
he wanted WooHoo! bars… thats all
Reminds me of when Mythbusters tested the “like a bull in a china shop” saying. They built a fake china shop and put a bull inside. It was actually very careful and tried not to run into anything.
Came to say the same thing.
Aww, poor hungry bear.
It cleaned up after itself and we’re assuming it’s male?
you know those honey bears are 10% honey 90% fructose?
Support your local bee keeper!
Our local apiary uses those bears, too ! Real nice guy, has a booth at the Farmer’s Market every week.
Smarter than the average bear!
Colorado bears are actually very well mannered. Wish I could say the same for some of the humans here….
So did this bear happen to be wearing a hat and tie and have a small timid bear waiting outside to share in the candies?
