It’s bad enough to involve your 11-year-old daughter in a shoplifting scheme, but to then refuse to pick her up from the police station after you get away? That’s more than bad parenting. That’s just mean.
Police in Troy, Mich. say a team of four people stole clothing from an Old Navy store in a a plan involving the mom, her daughter, a young boy and a 61-year-old woman, reports ABC7′s WXYZ.com. They allegedly split up to grab items and stow them in purses before leaving two at a time without paying.
Security managed to nab the 61-year-old woman and the girl, who had $123.95 worth of stolen goods in her purse.
She told cops her mom gave her the purse and told her what to do, and to meet her at the car. Police were able to figure out how to find the mom — her info was in the purse, as it appeared to be hers.
When cops called her to pick up her daughter, she denied ever being at the store and refused to come to the station. Later, she admitted she lied because she was afraid but still wouldn’t turn herself in.
An aunt ended up bringing the girl home later that night.

I hope this ‘parent’ has their kid taken away.
And put her where? Sadly, the other options are likely worse.
Yeah, we can’t take kids away just because their parent is a lying, theiving douchebag who not only involved her kid but abandons them if it’s convenient.
Are for you real?
You didn’t answer my question. Where would you like to put the child?
Perhaps with a relative that doesn’t seek to pimp her out? Or perhaps foster care, which, while not always ideal, is unlikley to y’know, PIMP HER OUT?
You seem to think Foster Care is some kind of panacea. It is far, far, far from an ideal situation. This mother is a dirtbag, for sure, just just taking the kid away is probably not a great option either.
Feel free to explain that to my aunt, who has been a foster parent to numerous kids.
Not all foster parents are well suited to it and taking children away from their parents should be a last resort.
Precisely. While some (and the majority publicised) of foster homes are awful, there are some real good people that foster as well. Your aunt, and several of my friends were foster kids. (Loooots of young-teen moms in my area. [Not me being a generalizing prick, most of the kids knew their moms and the average was 14 years old.])
I had a friend one time who’s parents got so abusive they put him in a foster home with his sisters this was before i met him and his sister they were like a normal family the foster parents were what all parents should be like not to stern but the kids did have a limit on what was allowed for a normal child all the kids you read about were not as half as well behaved as these
If she is “taken away” Foster care isn’t her only option. Surely there are relatives in that family that aren’t idiots and can set a good example.
Child Protective Services should take the 11 year old and mommy should be sentenced to a hysterectomy.
Mommy is already 61. It’s a little late.
61 year old lady was not mom.
Reading comprehension fail on your part.

Eugenics is a really terrible practice, so stop writing stuff like this.
This isn’t really eugenics in the strict definition. In this instance, the removal of the ability to create offspring is being done as a punishment, not in an effort to shape a population for a more desired outcome. Although, I like that you’re almost invoking Godwin’s Law, but just missed it. But yeah, totally agree that eugenics is bad.
I agree!
Child protective services should take away the 11 year old and funnel them to child prostitution rings overseas.
Which happens more often than not.
Ugh…only problem I have with this is that the foster/adoption system is fucked up. Granted, the mother in this case absolutely does NOT need to have custody of this poor child, I’d rather they find a good relative to take her in.
Wow anyone thinking the same thing as me when i say this should be a felony for the mom and 61 year old lady for involving minors who also thinks the police should not put this on record for the kids
No poll?
I came here to vote, too.
Serves the daughter right. Next time, she won’t get caught.
“An aunt ended up bringing the girl home later that night.”
All’s well that ends well.
“An aunt ended up bringing the girl home later that night.”
What? they let her go home? WTF?
They try not to book 11 year olds overnight, except for violent crimes. Jails are not equipped to handle kids and CPS/DCF or w/e likely won’t try to have the kid removed without a serious investigation (liability and trauma to the kid).
I hope that the aunt will take the child to her home rather then the mom.
I believe the officer tussled her hair and said “now git, you little scamp”
There is not enough information in this article.
Does anyone actually believe that if the mother had come to take her daughter home she would have been permitted to leave with the child, and not arrested?
As much as I think the story is depressing, the mother was absolutely right in not going to the police to pick up the child. She would have been arrested herself, and the child would have still needed someone to pick her up.
So now the mother will have a warrant out on her AND her kid wound up in jail longer.
How is this not endangering the welfare of a child?
Click through to the article; the mother is charged with child neglect, among other things.
This happened at the Old Navy I shop at. Horrible.
I agree. The old navy is pretty nasty.
$123 @ Old Navy, what did they use to boost the goods, a hefty bag?
This is like “Idiocracy” coming to life. Why is it people like this seem to breed, with no problems, but other people who really want children, and can raise them properly, seem to have issues?
I feel really bad for the 11 year old. This probably isn’t the first time she’s been dragged into shoplifting, it’s probably the first time she’s been caught. What utterly crappy behavior by the entire family.
The intelligent people wait too long. The stupid ones have nothing better to do so they start early.
At 26 I look out at the world and I have decided I have no business bringing another life into it. Work 48+ hours a week just to get by what kind of crappy parent would I be?
I thought for sure this was going to be a Florida story.
One of the thieves who used their kid did it perfectly. She had instructed her 6 yr old son what 2 to 4 items to pick up and hide. Then when they were stopped in the parking lot she exclaimed the little rascal had picked them up, etc. LP did nothing but take back the merchandise and put her on their watch list. In chatting with other stores LP discovered that this was the lady’s standard M.O.
The faimly that shoplifts together probably won’t stay together.
