Worst Company In America Semifinals: EA Vs. AT&T

This is it. Only one bout remains before we get to the Worst Company In America Final Death Match. But will it be the established telecom terror or the rookie greedy game-maker that vies for the Golden Poo?

With a resounding Round One victory over Verizon, AT&T proved that size doesn’t always matter and made it clear that it was a prime contender to wear the WCIA 2012 belt, crown, sash, scepter and fuzzy slippers.

The Death Star continued to flex its Worst Company muscles in Round Two when it charged Apple a 67% early termination fee.

But Round Three showed that the wireless giant may not be as invincible as it appears, with AT&T eking out a win over Facebook by fewer than 10% of the vote.

So is AT&T losing steam heading into today’s Semifinal bout? Or has the company just been resting up for the late rounds?

Meanwhile, EA’s debut appearance in the WCIA brackets has been a dazzling display of dominance. In Round One, the game publisher utterly destroyed Sony, in spite of the electronics legend’s massive data breach and subsequent network outage earlier this year.

Then it was on to Round Two, where voters overwhelmingly selected EA over Best Buy, choosing to go with the publisher who charges too much for games over the retailer that sells them.

And most recently, EA took down former WCIA champ Comcast in the third round in a battle between two companies that are pros at nickel-and-diming their customers.

It’s almost a shame that only one of these two bad businesses can move on to the finals.

But now is not the time to lament the nature of single-elimination tournaments. No, it is the time to vote.

(Voting on this poll will close at 11:59 p.m. ET tonight, March 30.)

As we mentioned when announcing the Round 3 contenders, we want to add some suspense to the remaining contests so the results will stay hidden until we post the two finalists on the morning of April 2. So be sure to check back Monday morning to see if your least-favorite made the cut.
