Woo-hoo, it’s Friday! Going out tonight to a friend’s house to play Shadowrun, hanging out with some other friends tomorrow night, and then Sunday is Oscar night! I have a busy weekend ahead!

Anyone else have fun plans this weekend?

    • axhandler1 says:

Nice! Sounds like a good weekend. I’m doing happy hour at Houlihan’s after work today, then a friends birthday party tomorrow night (sushi!) and on Sunday, trying to figure out a weekend to squeeze in a skiing trip before the season is over. I haven’t been in several years and really want to get back to it. Although I work on Saturdays until April, so it will be tough. Probably gonna try and do an overnight trip to Whiteface or something.

    • You Can Call Me Al(isa) says:

My nephew’s birthday party is Sunday. So I’m driving to my sister’s house tomorrow to hang out with her, her husband and the kids!

As for tonight… I’m still trying to decide on a restaurant to take my bf out to tonight.
This is the one I was looking at: http://www.lilianasrestaurant.com/index.html

      • InsertPithyNicknameHere says:

Oh, that looks like a nice place. I love that they focus on locally-sourced food (fresh veggies definitely make a difference).

    • raydee wandered off on a tangent and got lost says:

Gonna see a movie with a coworker and her friend’s kid–she doesn’t want to go to a children’s movie without a child, whereas I was completely cool with going by myself.

We’re seeing The Secret World of Arrietty, the Studio Ghibli Borrowers movie. :D

      • axhandler1 says:

I heard that The Secret World of Arrietty is just as good as all the other ones he’s put out. Really an amazing track record. And yeah, I would be totally fine going to see that movie sans child as well.

      • InsertPithyNicknameHere says:

Oooo, sounds fun! I need to go see that movie – I love Sudio Ghibli’s work.

        • raydee wandered off on a tangent and got lost says:

A few months back we dug up Ponyo because we had a debate about the sequence of events in an early scene. We were just going to settle the debate.

Ended up watching the whole movie.

      • catastrophegirl chooses not to fly says:

i love the books it’s based on: “the borrowers” series, so i’m really wanting to see that too. i don’t count it as a kids movie really. it’s more like an all ages movie

        • InsertPithyNicknameHere says:

I agree. There’s a big difference between a kid’s movie and a family movie. Princess Mononoke excepted, it seems that Studio Ghibli makes family movies.

          • LanMan04 says:

I don’t know that Spirited Away is really a family movie either…or Naussica for that matter.

            • InsertPithyNicknameHere says:

Ooo, I forgot about Naussica. As for Spirited Away, I didn’t think it would be too scary for small children (but, admittedly, I don’t have any).

      • HogwartsProfessor says:

I want to see that too.

  2. GuyGuidoEyesSteveDave‚Ñ¢ says:

I have a new theory. The spelling and grammar errors we see on the site lately are intentional. Stay with me, it kind of makes sense. In order to “prove” posts are being written and not just copied and pasted from a source, obvious, yet seemingly easy to make mistakes are inserted to make it seem like it was a mistake of the person writing it.

Also, if you don’t normally listen to podcasts, I suggest you listen to the Tell Em Steve-Dave podcast, episode 100, which features me and Dave Wyndorf, of Monster Magnet. If you enjoy it, leave a comment or tweet them @BryWaltQ, and let them know what you think of me. Thank you.

    GitEmSteveDave, AWAYYYYYYYYY!

    • DJ Charlie says:

Hey SteveDave, would you mind your podcast being broadcast on my station? We have a couple of dead air spots to fill out in the schedule, and it sounds like your podcast would do nicely.

    • nicless says:

Rob Bruce seems like one sketchy dude… but a podcast of you just arguing with him about collectables could totally work.

  3. Dallas_shopper says:

I’m sick AGAIN. I get sick constantly nowadays. :-( I had a sick day last week so I am suffering through today, just need to make it another 4.5 hours and I’m home free.

    • lovemypets00 - You'll need to forgive me, my social filter has cracked. says:

I had the world’s worst head cold all of last week, and the congestion has lasted to this week. I can at least breathe now, somewhat, but there is still so much congestion. It’s amazing how much snot one human being can create in a day!!

  4. catastrophegirl chooses not to fly says:

anyone have allstate minimed health plan? my roommate has it and we’ve just discovered that even though she has a basic plan, it’s supposed to cover at least part of her hospitalization and they denied her emergency claims in january and her claim from this past weekend where she was admitted for IV antibiotics to deal with an infection on her optic nerve
their website has almost no information, their phone number doesn’t get you to a human – just a phone response system. i have no idea how to help her get this resolved or at least clarified as to what they cover.

and here’s a totally safe for work picture of the sticker on my boob from the radiology yesterday. a total of ten mammogram pics because they kept needing different angles. apparently that particular spot is so hard to get into the pancake press machine that i have actual bruises today.
then an ultrasound with 2 techs and the doctor still not able to determine what the weird painful tissue discrepancy with no blood vessels in it is in my left breast.
    what i know is:
it hurts, a lot. that’s why i went in.
it was already misdiagnosed as arthritis by a doc who didn’t want to do a mammogram
it’s a black hole on ultrasound but is not a cyst
and the radiology doc wants me to wait 6 months and “see if it grows. if it grows maybe it’s cancer”
i will be following up with my doc when she gets the images because i don’t want to wait 6 months [did i mention it hurts? also scary]

follow up on the weird spots, pains and lumps ladies, it’s important

    • HogwartsProfessor says:

I’ve never heard of Allstate minimed. Is it connected to the regular Allstate? Perhaps someone there can help, or at least find a better point of contact.

Yes, important to follow up on things. One of my friends was close to a lady who kept having pain in her back. She wouldn’t go get it checked because she was afraid of the doctor, until finally it was too much to bear. Turned out it was breast cancer and it had spread to her spine. She didn’t last long after that. :(

    • lovemypets00 - You'll need to forgive me, my social filter has cracked. says:

Always follow up, and if you don’t feel right, go to another doctor, or 3 or 4 if you have to! I lost a friend to stomach cancer. She had an upset stomach, and a persistent cough, and the doctor gave her prescription antacids. Never examined her further, just said she had stress, it’s common, blah blah blah. She was so miserable and finally just couldn’t eat any longer without throwing up, and another doctor finally did a CT scan. The cancer had spread to her abdominal organs, and she died several months later.

We know our bodies and what feels right and what doesn’t, so it’s always wise to be as cautious as possible.

      • tooluser says:

Ditto. Don’t let “the machine” get in the way of your health. Be assertive and keep looking for someone who will listen. You are in charge.

I had a doctor who told me “you’ll just have to live with it”. I fired him, and the very next doctor had all sorts of suggestions, tests, and things to look into.

    • Not Given says:

      They can do an mri.

      • catastrophegirl chooses not to fly says:

they CAN but an MRI is a very limited diagnostic tool for breast problems. mammography is looking for calcifications and ultrasound is looking for density changes and blood vessels. MRI doesn’t show as much relevant information as a breast tissue diagnostic.
they are great for my brain and spinal column for changes in my MS though.

  5. chizu says:

If and when one is at a somewhat low point in life — don’t ever ask if it could get any worse, because it can and it will… I think I must have forgotten to sacrifice something to whatever is higher up there at the end of last year to have bad stuff coming at me in waves. It’s just one thing after another, and I had been informed earlier this week that more bad stuff is happening and I would have to prepare for it…

With that being said, I need TV shows recommendations since I might be trapped in a small confined space for an extended period of time in the near future. I have generally “bad” taste in shows, can someone think of something similar to these other shows that I enjoy? I enjoy shows like: Castle, Burn Notice, Lie to Me, Bones and various “crime solving shows”. (I didn’t care for NCIS and CSI when I watched them… And somehow I can’t think of anything else that I enjoy watching…)

Hope everyone will have a good weekend. And I hope this curse I have will be lifted soon…

    • Tegan says:

Check out Body of Proof on ABC.

      • chizu says:

I actually just finished watching the latest episode available on Hulu, but I haven’t see any of season 1, so I guess I should catch up with all those first.

        • catastrophegirl chooses not to fly says:

          i second body of proof.
also, i’ve been enjoying “the finder”

          • lovemypets00 - You'll need to forgive me, my social filter has cracked. says:

Can you get Body of Proof anywhere else other than Comcast On Demand? It’s the ABC show, right? I watched it a few times, and liked it, but the On Demand program won’t let you fast forward through commercials. The last time I watched it, I swear they played the same Gnomeo and Juliet commercial 20 times! I felt like I was being tortured. I did mute it, but still, it took the whole hour to watch the show.

    • MaxH42 thinks RecordStoreToughGuy got a raw deal says:

      White Collar.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, chizu.

      • chizu says:

Thanks Max. I watched the first season of White Collar and then I forgot about it. Maybe I’ll revisit it again considering how much time I might end up being confined…

Check out Wire in the Blood and Poirot. Wire in the blood is pretty intense and dramatic, while Poirot is just fun.

First off, I’m sorry to hear about the FUBAR condition your life has reached. I’ll see if I can’t find a goat to sacrifice on your behalf this weekend.

As for television, if you don’t mind a bit of supernatural with your crime shows, I’d recommend Blood Ties. I’m not sure if Hulu has it – I’m at work & can’t check. But that’s my two cents.

    • lovemypets00 - You'll need to forgive me, my social filter has cracked. says:

Sorry to hear this. Here are some from Netflix streaming, but they may be available on DVD as well – Cold Squad (Canadian, from the 90′s/2000′s), Waking the Dead (UK, 2000′s), Davinci’s Inquest (Canadian, 90′s), Wire in the Blood (UK, 2000′s), and Law & Order Criminal Intent.

      Good luck!!

  6. DJ Charlie says:

Oh, such a week! Shall we run down the list?

FIRST: Going over the top 50 charts for the week, I notice our friends at [big music chart supplying company] have done it again. They slipped in a song that hasn’t even been released to the stations yet.

They do this every few months, saying “and the new hit by [name], [title] is skyrocketing up the charts!” when the blasted song hasn’t even been released yet!

The labels have a reporting service in place for when [big music chart supplying company] pulls this stunt (supposedly there’s fines involved), but it never seems to do any good.

BTW, fun fact: Radio stations know who’s going to be #1 for any given week about a month in advance. And it’s always crap.

SECOND: Turns out my fantastic mechanic isn’t so fantastic. He’s had the Lady for 3 weeks, fixing electrical problems. Only those were fixed 2 weeks ago. Got an email from his wife (he’s a shadetree mechanic, came HIGHLY recommended by several trusted sources) saying “he’s been using your van to haul scrap to the junkyard and help his friends move furniture.” WTF?

THIRD: The new med that I was getting at the hospital but not at home because cardiologist #2 said “it will do nothing to change your blood pressure” is working great. Blood pressure is now 128/83. Cardiologist #1 is overjoyed, cardiologist #2 refuses to return calls to me or cardiologist #1. So my pacemaker is being put on hold.

    So how is everyone else?

    • InsertPithyNicknameHere says:

I’m sadly unsurprised by the fact that a chart of “Top Hits” is given to you well in advance. The quality of music on most radio stations is the main reason I usually listen to the local college station – the DJ might promote his friend’s crappy band, but at least it’s something different.

As for your mechanic, I am without words. He needs a good talking to (and by “talking to”, I mean “foot up the rear”).

I am very happy to hear that the additional med is working for you. Sucks that Cardiologist #2 is being such a jerk about it, though.

      • DJ Charlie says:

I’m more pissed off at the mechanic than anything else. I’d get the cops on him, but (according to a relative who happens to be the sheriff) the Lady would be impounded until the case is heard in court. Every time I call him, he keeps saying “it’ll be ready tomorrow.” Even though his wife says he’s using it for ALL his errands and junk hauling. WHEN I get the Lady back, I’m going over the interior with a magnifying glass. $400 to completely redo the interior, and he’s using her to haul scarp metal???

        • slyabney says:

Just show up one day to see how progress is going. Say you need the car back by xx day since it’s been long enough and if it’s not ready, call the sheriff to return your property.

Good luck! I don’t often comment but I’m glad you’re feeling better, not glad that the doctor’s being a jerk.

    • MaxH42 thinks RecordStoreToughGuy got a raw deal says:

Glad to hear about the blood pressure meds. I hope you can just find a new cardiologist to replace #2, because he sounds like…a steaming pile of number two. (Yeah, potty humor…I can never resist….)

    • catastrophegirl chooses not to fly says:

is your mechanic’s wife mad at him? has he been using your van to pick up hookers or something?

also – any updates on a discussion of your station doing a roku channel?

      • DJ Charlie says:

We got the clearance for it, but we need an actual unit to do the programming and testing. :) Got one on the way, so expect KJSR.net TV really soon!

      • DJ Charlie says:

He and his wife are technically separated, but living together. She’s a good person, and doesn’t like seeing a customer get screwed.

Sad part is, he’s a brilliant mechanic, if you WATCH him all the time.

    • HogwartsProfessor says:

      Bleah mechanic.

      Yay bp medicine!

    Guys, guys!

I got engaged a few days ago. I know pretty much nothing about planning a wedding. For various reasons, it needs to be in mid-August of this year. Looking around $5k-ish.

What to do!? Maybe more importantly, what NOT to do!?

Please to be telling me all your advice and things!!

    • DJ Charlie says:

      First, DON’T PANIC.

Second, save yourself a ton of money and worry. Elope.

    • catastrophegirl chooses not to fly says:

coming from my hotel concierge experience this is the one tip i know that no one ever seems to plan:
you know how you are planning a buffet/sit down dinner/snacks at your wedding? you aren’t getting any of it. too many people will be all over you trying to get your attention, too much kissing long lost relatives and saying hi to your friend from college.
get your caterer to include a to go box and set it aside with the luggage/gifts/whatever you have to leave with.
make sure it’s something you can eat cold if you have to go to a hotel because they may not be able to heat it up for you.
you do NOT want to be reliant on the 24 hour mcdonald’s drive through for your wedding dinner

      • Jules Noctambule says:

Catastrophegirl is correct, and you should absolutely take her advice. Also, congratulations! I have some friends getting married the same time of year; they’re renting out a hall in the state science museum. We will eat among statues of dinosaur skeletons. I highly recommend this plan.

      • MaxH42 thinks RecordStoreToughGuy got a raw deal says:

        Congrats, Thyme!

First off, not everything will go the way you pictured it. That’s OK, because whatever happens with the food or flowers or venue, when the day is over you will still be married, and in a year (or maybe 10, if it’s a full-scale riot with tear gas and everything) you’ll look back and laugh.

As for the to-go box, that’s a great idea, although at weddings where I’ve been in the wedding party, we brought the bride and groom plates and drinks while they did whatever they needed to do, and our friends did that for us at our wedding. You can always ask your closest friends and family to help with things like that.

    • HogwartsProfessor says:

      Congratulations!

I’m sorry; I have no advice. No one will marry me. :P

  13. Dallas_shopper says:

I will probably sound like a total a-hole here, but I’m sick of my Indian co-workers having constant work-related conversations, sometimes scrums of 6-8 of them all standing around someone’s desk, speaking a variety of languages OTHER than English.

I don’t care what languages they speak to each other on their breaks, but I think all business here needs to be conducted in English.

    • Jules Noctambule says:

Well, you’re right on the first part, anyway.

      • Dallas_shopper says:

Come put up with what I put up with on a daily basis, then say that shit.

        • lovemypets00 - You'll need to forgive me, my social filter has cracked. says:

I don’t have to deal with varieties of languages, but I would feel like I was being excluded somehow, and the group didn’t want me to know what they’re talking about.

If they’re talking about business, in a busy cube environment, go to a conference room and talk. If it’s personal stuff, go to the coffee break area. It’s rude for people to just stand around in groups, randomly, and blather on, whether in English or another language. It’s distracting enough listening to phones ring, computer keys tapping, and umpteen conversations while you’re trying to concentrate. And sometimes earphones aren’t an option when you actually have to hear and interact with your cube mate or other people and you don’t want to be poked in the shoulder all day long.

        • Jules Noctambule says:

You assume a lot, don’t you?

      • Rebecca K-S says:

Ding ding ding! We have a winner.

    • InsertPithyNicknameHere says:

Why should it matter whether the conversation is work-related or not? Unless you need to be part of those conversations, then your ability to understand them is irrelevant.

I understand that, if people are speaking in a language unfamiliar to you, it may be more difficult to tune it out as background noise (I have that problem when some of my coworkers start speaking Mandarin Chinese). But if that’s the issue, buy some headphones.

  14. HogwartsProfessor says:

    Smiley goggie!

So it’s been a month since I was laid off and there is not much out there. I keep finding job listings I’m totally qualified for and tweak my resumes to fit them and try to write a good cover letter and nothing. The temp service has almost nothing either. I’m going down the list of places the Career Center gave me to search. On the bright side, I did get a notification to show up for the state Merit examination for a clerical position I applied for. Yay! Also, 0_0

Last weekend my BF visited. I made him that engagement chicken recipe from Glamour magazine (I’ve been dying to try it but didn’t want to eat a whole chicken alone). It turned out fantastic, but the chicken was bigger than I thought and it took longer than I anticipated and we had to wait forever to eat. We went to this little sci-fi/fantasy/nerdcon and had a great time and almost broke up (but didn’t). Not exactly the perfect weekend I had planned. :P We did go see The Woman in Black and it was awesome. Go see it!

I hope if I do get a job that they can accept that I have a non-refundable ticket for Memorial Day weekend to go see him, because we have to plan these trips way ahead of time in order to afford them. Of course, with the lack of postings and response, I may not have to worry about that.

AAAAAAAND now my leg is hurting. As in “there might be a clot in there” hurting. No job and no insurance. I have an appointment at my doctor’s today to talk to a lady about a program that will allow me to still see my physician only pay a very low rate. As soon as my severance is up in March, then I have only unemployment, which is ridiculously low. I don’t know how they think you can live on that. I don’t know how much I can earn before I lose it. I need to ask them.

So it’s been partly good and partly bad.

    • You Can Call Me Al(isa) says:

So… are you engaged now? ;-)

I was on the fence about going to see The Woman in Black… I think I’ll go see it when it’s on the $5 movie list at the theater nearby!

      • HogwartsProfessor says:

Um, no. Not engaged. I don’t think that despite copious amounts of praying that I will ever have what I wanted, which is to get married and have a family.

I just thought the chicken looked really good. It was; also it is really easy to make. My mistake was not putting it in the oven soon enough. Also I forgot to turn it over after 15 minutes.

WIB was very good. Daniel Radcliffe did a great job. The movie is a bit predictable in spots, but is very dark, moody and disturbing. It had a good story and was what I would call a classic ghost story. I really liked the Edwardian period setting too.

        • catastrophegirl chooses not to fly says:

are you stuck on him proposing? i mean if he’s shy or has low self confidence he might STILL fear rejection. but if you ask he might say yes

          • HogwartsProfessor says:

No, that’s not it. Anyway, it’s not why I made the chicken. I think the whole chicken proposal thing is stupid. Those guys would have done it anyway.

I just wanted to fix him a nice dinner, since he cooked for me at Thanksgiving. Also, I really wanted to try that recipe because it looked so freaking good. And it WAS.

Oh! And I watched a video twice and then carved the chicken all by myself without making a mistake! :)

            • catastrophegirl chooses not to fly says:

i don’t know anything about a chicken proposal thing, never heard of it. but that’s probably because i have no interest in marriage. if it’s what i think it is from the context, then it sounds like it’s probably pretty stupid and you were right to be making a recipe just because you wanted to.
by the way, if you like food tutorials, check out the ‘you’re doing it all wrong’ series on CHOW [available on your roku as a stand alone channel or in nowhereTV]

    • chizu says:

Glad the chicken turn out good! The reviews on the page seem to be mixed and a lot of people said it was lacking in flavour? I had never roasted a chicken before so I wasn’t sure if that recipe reads right… I guess I should have made that for my ex, but alas, I spoiled him by making him /everything else/ he wanted to eat instead…

The whole not getting any response thing is what kind of terrifies me. I had been bad about not being motivated. (This is my second week of mandatory four-day weekend.) But I think I’m just feeling down and anxious than I’m displaying… I should really be more active about finding school and updating various… Things. *sighs* But then again, with so much other crap popping up in my life right now, I’m not sure if I’ll even have time for that…

Good luck to you and me both!

It did, except because I was so inexperienced with it and the chicken was bigger than the recipe said, and the pan was bigger too, the “marry me” juice ended up all baked down and I had to deglaze the pan a couple of times. Next time I get a chicken I’m not buying it vacuum-packed at the grocery store. When I took the little thing out of the bag, it GREW! But it tasted delicious and he liked it.

Don’t give up. I know how it is. Just start small. Tell yourself you’re going to do one thing each day–read two articles on how to tweak your resume, etc. Then the next day try one of the things you read. Then the next day look at school stuff. Just don’t wait too long because that’s what I did (waited too long to find another job, start Spanish class, etc).

        Good luck to us! :)

I’ve been reading “Money Makeover”, and have been getting our finances together, and I’m happy to say that with our tax refund, I paid off 6 debts and got our “emergency fund” finally up to $1,000 like he recommends. Now we just have Dental (owe 3500) and credit card (owe 3000) to pay off. I’m first going to tackle the dental payments because the interest is really high, I can put at least $400 a month towards it. We are now working towards debt free!! (well, other than the house).

I’ve set up a cash budget for groceries, which is where the majority of the paycheck goes, and since I do the grocery shopping, I need to get it under control. I’m going for $500 a month for groceries, or $125 a week. I can make adjustments in April where needed.

Next step is finding a job on the weekends only. You’d think it would be easy, normal people want weekends off. But weekends hubby can watch the kids so I can bring in extra income to pay down the debt.

Congratulations on paying off debt! I worked at it alone (husband spent money, gambled, racked up his own credit card debt while I plugged away, did without, and sacrificed, but that’s another story). I’m down to $7600 on a parent plus loan I took out to help our daughter with college. Dave Ramsey’s website and podcasts were of a huge help to me. I didn’t eat all beans and rice, but I thought for a while if I ate one more peanut butter sandwich I’d scream!

Here is some unsolicited advice – I found the $1000 emergency fund to be too small. I had a transmission failure in my vehicle, on the way to work 23 miles away, and between having to rent a car and pay for a new transmission, it was well over $2K. If I hadn’t had my credit cards with me that day (which I was sorely tempted to cut up since they had a zero balance, but didn’t), I would have been SOL, and with no vehicle to get to work, and would have had to try to borrow money from someone, as my husband was of no help to me.

I strive to have at least $2K in my emergency fund now, although it’s down to $1K now because I had to replace the oil tank at my house, but found that works a little better.

Good luck with your remaining debt – it’s truly awesome what you’re doing. Kudos!!

I’m so glad it’s Friday. I wish I could find a place to run away to, but my lack of disposable income and very high rents due to gas drilling in our area are thwarting my escape. I’ve seen rooms advertised for rent for $1000/month. I know I should be grateful that I have a job and a place to lay my head, but honestly I think if I have to stay married to my husband for much longer it’s going to kill me. I hate to say this, but at least he’s a truck driver and isn’t home for days at a time, so it’s easier to cope.

Also, I think my poor dog is either totally blind or close to it due to cataracts, which came on so suddenly it’s scary (he was OK last summer and now can’t see). He runs into things and trips, and I’ve been trying to talk to him and lead him around when I’m home so he feels more secure. I can’t afford the $4K + for surgery for him, and I’m wondering if I should find out if there’s a lab rescue group that could find someone to adopt him who could afford the surgery. I love him with all my heart, but if someone else could help him and he could live out his life being able to see and run and play like he used to, I would let him go.

I may have to break down and talk to my parents to see if I could live with them for a while, but that’s always been a last resort in my mind, like if my house burned down last resort. My dad and I wouldn’t have any problems, but my mom is really difficult. When she gets started about all the drama in our extended family, end times prophesy and Jack Van Impe, it drives me up a wall. And she just won’t let stuff go, even when I gently tell her, yes mom, you told me about cousin Jane’s daughter’s husband and his evil sister. Yes mom, she is evil, some people are, and we can’t do anything. And yet she continues. Repeatedly. Ugh.

I keep telling myself to buck up and stop feeling badly, that others have it so much worse, but I wonder how much longer I can keep up that facade.

but if you move, what will happen to outside cat?
not that i am suggesting you suffer for her sake but i hope if you do find a place that you can get her into a safe situation.
and i hope you get into a better situation.

      • lovemypets00 - You'll need to forgive me, my social filter has cracked. says:

Oh I worry about my animals!! My inside cats are almost 13, sisters, only two from a litter, and have been together literally from conception. I have had them since they were 8 weeks old. At least I have a home lined up for Chloe! One of my coworker’s sons has purchased a small farm, complete with a barn, and so far that’s going to be her destination. I hope Chloe’s friend, a thin black cat with yellow eyes (looks almost exactly like a Basement Cat on LOLcats) can go too. If I had known back in 2006 I’d be in this mess now, I wouldn’t have adopted my dog. If it were just me, I’d probably be able to find a room somewhere and wait out divorce proceedings.

No one, I mean no one, wants to allow pets, let alone a dog, 2 cats, and 2 outside cats, and I really can’t blame them. And the gas worker employees have really high salaries, and I can’t blame landlords for wanting to make a big profit. It’s just frustrating. And I can’t move too far away due to the situation with my parents, their ages, and I’m an only child.

I’ve talked to my husband many times and told him I want a divorce, but he says he doesn’t, and will never sign papers. He let his mother’s house go to ruin with a huge leaky roof and wild animals got inside, no heat for over a year, it’s a disaster, so he won’t move in there, and really can’t. So I am stuck paying all the bills, providing his health insurance (at hundreds of extra dollars out of my paycheck every month), so he can just do what he wants, when he wants, and there’s really nothing I can do. And to top it off, when I spoke to an attorney, I might have to pay him support because he’s paid on a 1099 and it looks like I make more money than he does! OMG what a freakin’ mess.

I’m sorry for such a long reply. It’s probably good to talk to someone about it. My coworkers don’t want to hear it, friends don’t want to be around the “debbie downer”, so this is my chance to talk and vent and maybe get some ideas. Commenter “cat” suggested getting a storage unit…definitely going to look into that.

i think your husband needs more bacon. and some sausage. eggs too. more cheese. a definite increase in alcohol consumption. cut the fiber and veggies out of his diet. get a bigger TV so he doesn’t want to get off the couch and do anything physical.
oh, and get some life insurance on him

And I hope your employment picture gets better. Every state has different rules about how much you can earn while on unemployment if you get a part time job. I hear about people who actually have to cut back an hour or two a week at a part time job so they don’t lose their benefits, it’s crazy. All the advertised jobs in my area involved CDL truck drivers, people who can weld, frack, fix diesel stuff, or nurses. That’s about it. I was seriously thinking about getting my CDL and driving a truck if push came to shove :)

        • HogwartsProfessor says:

I know. Around here it’s all call centers. No matter how bad off I am, I can’t work at a call center. Dear God, no. And unfortunately I’m getting to the point where I’m not physically able to work at a restaurant. Of course, if it’s only a couple of days I might be able to. But I dont’ WAAAAANNNNAAA go back to food service. I’ve been out of it for too long!
