"Thor" And "Kung Fu Panda" Were Popular With Pirates This Year

While sailing the seven seas of legally questionable file sharing, freeloaders apparently cast their treasure nets for the likes of Thor, Glee, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Green Lantern. Those titles were reportedly among the most searched-for BitTorrent phrases in 2011.

Assuming the searches led to downloads, TorrentFreak‘s list of the 50 most searched-for terms probably corresponds with the most-pirated products on the internet.

Movies and TV shows frequented the list, as did “720p,” meaning searchers were into purloining high-definition copies of their desired wares. “Porn” checked in at a lowly No. 19, just ahead of Transformer 3, Cars 2 and Captain America.

Popularity among the file-sharing crowd is likely a reflection of demand in the paying community. But judging from the mediocrity of many movies and shows on the list, there’s also the possibility that torrent popularity indicates stuff that people wouldn’t mind watching but don’t feel is worth paying for.
