Even More Dog Food Recalled Because Aflatoxin Is Not Part Of Your Pet's Diet

Last week, we told you about the recall of some Iams and other dog food brands over concerns about the possible contamination by a nasty mold. Well, the recalls continue, as Advanced Animal Nutrition has announced a recall of its dry Dog Power Dog Food for the exact same reason.

Once again, the FDA has detected a too-high level of aflatoxin — a by-product of the fungus Aspergillus flavus — which you don’t want to be feeding to your furry friend.

The affected products were manufactured between Jan. 4, 2011, and Nov. 18, 2011. No illnesses have been reported in association with these products to date, and no other Advanced Animal Nutrition pet food products are involved in this recall.

Affected products are:
DOG POWER ADULT MAINTENANCE FORMULA 21-12 Dog Food, 50 pound bags
DOG POWER HUNTERS FORMULA 27-14 Dog Food, 50 pound bags
DOG POWER HI-PRO PERFORMANCE FORMULA 26-18 Dog Food, 50 pound bags

The recall only applies to the above products with the following Packaging Date Codes (lot numbers): K0004 through K1322.

The recalled dog food was distributed in Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

If you have any of this dog food, it should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. For more information, call 866-648-7646.

And if your pet has eaten the recalled dog food and is exhibiting these symptoms — sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, vomiting, yellowish tint to the eyes or gums, or diarrhea — you should get your dog to a veterinarian.
