The arms race of hours is on. Determined to top retailers like Target, Macy’s, Kohl’s and Best Buy who are all opening at midnight on Black Friday, Walmart has announced it will be opening at 10 pm on Thanksgiving night.
“Our customers told us they would rather stay up late to shop than get up early,” Duncan Mac Naughton, chief merchandising officer of Wal-Mart United States, told NYT in a statement.
Doorbuster deals will start then too, like men’s Wrangler jeans for $9.97, and Barbie dolls for $5. However, Walmart isn’t giving it all up early. Electronics deals, like a 8-gig iPod Touch for $195, won’t start until midnight.
NYT notes that this is the first year ever that stores are doing doorbuster specials on Thanksgiving.
