That Whole Pumpkin Shortage Thing? It's Gonna Be Just Fine

OMG how is the Great Pumpkin going to show up on Halloween if the big bad pumpkin shortage deprives us all of our jack-o-lanterns? Yes, everyone (even us!) reported on the frightening loss of the all-important Halloween gourds, but really, don’t worry.

As Time points out, the effect of news outlets, blogs and other media repeating the story of oversoaked farmland leading to a scarcity of pumpkins has blown up the truth into something more terrifying than only getting apples in your trick-or-treat bag.

While the wet summer did decrease crops in the east by 25-50%, a troubling sign Consumerist remarked on, along with various other media sources, they’re not completely wiped out. Also? Pumpkins are planted in every state in the U.S., says the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

That means if New York is having a tough pumpkin season, that’s okay, Michigan will come to the rescue! Or California, or Texas! Worst case scenario, you might have to pay a little bit more or not get that mega huge one you usually go for, but isn’t a magnificently carved jack-o-lantern worth a dollar more and a size downgrade? Charlie Brown would say yes.

And if you don’t live in the Northeast, well then, carve on, ye ghouls and ghosts.
