The Pros And Cons Of Egg Donation

Some women have the opportunity to “donate” eggs and receive hefty compensation in exchange. The decision of whether or not to go through with the endeavor is an intensely personal one, filled with both positives and negatives.

Writing at The Hairpin, an anonymous egg donor spells out the benefits and drawbacks of the process. She says women who are under the age of 33, have never paid for sex, injected illegal drugs or had several recent sex partners have the best chance of passing the screening, which involves mental, physical and medical tests.

Among the pluses are the money — donors can make as much as $10,000 in the process — as well as the knowledge that you’re helping someone who otherwise might not be able to have a baby.

Minuses include a traumatic surgery process that grounds donors for two days afterward, and also having to hold off from sex until after their next period.
