Car Dealerships Want To Get Rid Of Certain Models During Holiday Sales

During holiday sales weekends, car dealerships want to lure you in with big deals on delightful new cars. But during these weekends, and in the weeks after, there are really only a few dealers want you to drive off the lot: a luxury ride, a big truck or an unpopular model.

SmartMoney took info from vehicle search-engine Chug to look into the top overstocked models in the country. Armed with the knowledge of which cars they really want to get rid of, you can have some wiggle room when haggling over prices.

It’s not a strict list to go by, however, as they note that the hot seller Toyota Prius is at number four because it’s such a hot car these days and is always in demand. It will likely always sell for a high price.

Chug says the site maps inventory sites to compare what’s on lots versus what should be there this time of year. As SmartMoney suggests, it’s best to confirm availability on the model you want at your local dealer and check Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds before you hit the lots.

Here are some of the most overstocked:

1. Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet SUV
2. Ford Super Duty F-750 Straight Frame truck
3. Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon
4. Toyota Prius
5. Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX
7. Chevrolet Volt
